Just curious. In the last couple of months, we've had 2 random people show up at our home claiming to be inspectors, needing to take pictures, etc. No ID, nothing identifying who they are on their car, no uniforms but saying the owner sent them to do an inspection. Both have been very irate that we would not allow them access.

Anyone else in SoWal having this happen?

Maybe the owner is getting a new insurance policy, or going for discounts? They usually just need some pictures of the exterior and roof. And they don't always have a sign on their car (never seen one in uniform). Usually just insurance agents/empolyees/etc.

Seems like they could have presented themselves better, though. A business card would have been nice.

For you own peace of mind, you might consider calling the owner and ask if they know this is happening. It's very possible that these folks were contracted by the owner's insurance company; but I see no reason why they wouldn't identify themselves as such. On the other hand, they may be trying to get the house appraised for sale--in which case they might not want to tip the renters off as to what is coming down the pipe.

I just switched insurance companies and they sent a person to my home to take photos and ask some questions--he went out of his way to show me who he was and who sent him so I would know he wasn't some nut-job.

They could be legitimate ........................ or they could be casing the place.

Always call the owner and verify. I have had one LEGITIMATELY come by when the owner was getting a new policy or something, but I was given advance notice and a time frame.

An "inspector" who doesn't even have a business card is damn sketchy! There should at least be some paperwork, though they rarely have a uniform or car signage.

My insurance agent tells me that I might see someone in front snapping pics, but they do not need to get inside!

Beware out there~~~~~

Our insurance inspector took a photo of our circuit box (inside the garage); also eyeballed the fireplace; probably also wanted to "confirm" I didn't own a vicious breed of dog, trampoline or trapeze

How long does it take you to roll the trampoline to the neighbors yard & break down the trapeze? Do you do practice drills for that?

I am beginning to shop around for new homeowners and wind insurance.....any reputable agent names and phone #'s would be greatly appreciated....Thanks in advance!!
