Another Walk in the Swamp

New posts
Mike, the next time I anm down there I would like to take a trip into the swamp with you. I always enjoyed the outdoors growing up and did a lot of hunting though I usually didn't shoot anything. Just spent time in the woods. It is so quiet and peaceful. It is a great stress reliever.

Let me know when you get here and we'll see if it's a good time or if I'm 'on' any snakes at the time.. I went out today in different areas and wasn't able to get into the places I needed to. I'm not as brave as you may think. I get spooked. A swamp I was in today had too much of a mucky bottom and I didn't feel comfortable. The other swamp I was in had a good number of pine needle at the bottom, making for a nice walking service.

I need to go take a look at that link Shelly provided regarding the rabbit. Somehow, Shelly has ready access to abundant knowledge and thankfully, shares. Maybe I'll come up with something and get some Diamondback footage soon.

I found some tracks today that appeared to be an attack from a coyote on a deer. It may not show up on the photos I took. But it's interesting to observe tracks. These looked like a struggle occurred where the tracks were.

There's still sunlight. I know where I can go for an excess supply of Moccasin but I don't want to bother the same ones I've been seeing. They might grow tired of my advances :idontno:

Thanks Shelly. I know rattlers are fond of rabbit nests and obviously some nests would exist in that area, but if there weren't an estabished breeding population of rattelrs in that lacation previously, I'm not sure they'd have found out about the rabbit. But who knows. I sure appreciate you tracking that story down though.

I actually wanted to go on the bayside dunes about a week ago but I don't remember all the signs on the side of the road saying 'no parking'. I guess I could park across and walk over. I'm not sure. But I wondered about snakes in that area.

Thanks for sharing your great videos.

Have you ever been bit by a snake?

Never by a snake, but a crawfish, yes :D. I'm actually pretty careful around these snakes. I do sometimes worry if one actually makes a mad dash at me and I fall over or lose my balance. But I've only had a few snakes actually come after me and I've encountered hundreds and hundreds of them in the wild. I have a decent feel for their body language, although when I first moved here, the pygmy was different than other snakes I encountered. They are all different.

The Moccasin, when on land, is clumsy as it moves along and beats the heck out of the ground when it moves. There is nothing graceful about it. The pygmy almost moves like a sidewinder sometimes, but like the moccasin, is not very graceful in its movement.

But there are snakes out there, after me getting use to how cottonmouth move along, that surprise the heck out of me. Thankfully they go in the opposite direction. But some of these snakes have a glorious degree of precision in their body mechanics on solid ground. Swift!

Looking at you title, I sure would like to know a little more about trading. From some research I've done, I think our economy is headed down again and will go sideways for years to come. If you ever feel like being a mentor, I'd love to sit down and talk. And just like with the snakes, I won't bite :D

Btw, I've got another video I just put out called, 'A Walk in the Woods' that is quite nice, I think.

I would be happy to share what I know about trading.

I do a lot of hiking in the North Ga mountains. I go off trail quite a bit. Sometimes too much. I was bit by a snake as I tromped thru the woods. Never saw him. He hit and it took me a few steps for my mind to register what had happened. I typically hike with two pairs of socks to help prevent blisters and when I stopped and rolled down my socks, there were the two tell tale fang marks. Looked for the snake but never found it. They say to stay calm which I did fairly well. Problem is, I had to hike back to my car which was a good distance. I drove to the hospital and they kept me for observation but the snake did not envenomate me. Years later, I almost stepped on a snake near Lake Oconee. Don't know the species. He crawled away faster than I thought a snake could crawl. That alone made him one of my favorite snakes.

North Georgia mountains? My granddad lives in Dawsonville, actually, on the River Bend Gun Club. He regrets that he can no longer walk in the woods because the roots and vines tend to reach up and trip him. And at 93 0r 94 years old, falling is not a good option.

It's 3:40 and I need to find sleep right now. I'd love to hear some of your hiking stories. That's pretty interesting about getting bit. I've obviously read about bites and heard of a few, but it's not everyday you meet someone who has been bitten.

Actually, a met a guy a couple days ago who said his friend's dog recently was bitten in the face by a moccasin and the dog's face swoll up drastically. Anti-venon was given, at a cost of $1000 bucks from what he told me. Some of the moccasin I'm seeing certainly have wide heads and strictly from their appearance look like they could deliver quite a punch.

I'll be going out of town this weekend and will return with the loves of my life, my two kiddies, Monday. We'll be in some serious fun while they're here and probably see a few snakes, though I doubt we'll be walking through the swamps lol.

But yes, I'd love to talk about investments with you and pick your brain a little. Hopefully I wouldn't diverge into talking 'wildlife and hiking' too soon into the conversation, but...

Thanks for your input, Traderx.
