Mine is only from a few years ago--Jackson's first Halloween!! Oh my gosh!! He looked so adorable!

When I was six years old I dressed up as Frankenstein and went trick or treating with my step dad. In our neighborhood, one family took Halloween very seriously and always had their home made up as a haunted house with all the gruesome trimmings. Myself and the other kids my age gave it a wide berth as their were 'scary stories' associated with it. Well, we made our rounds and finally came up to the haunted house. We were in a group of about six or seven other kids my age and their parents. When we rang the doorbell it made a screaming sound...then these huge plodding footsteps approached the door...finally bursting open with a huge Frankenstein monster roaring at all the kids! Everyone scattered screaming in terror..except for me. My step dad was sooooo proud that I didn't run away. It was only later that he found out I didn't run because I was dressed as Frankenstein as well and using my advanced 6 year old logic figured the monster would feel a kinship with me and only kill everyone else leaving me all the candy! lol

When i was 16, a couple of friends and I dressed as the ghostbusters. We made our own costumes and had "ghost guns". My little sister was our ghost. At school, there was a costume contest that everyone thought we should have won. Instead a group of cheerleaders with store-bought "fruit of the loom" fruit won.

Halloween night We rode around town in back of my Dad's truck scaring all the little kids. It was big funn!

 Great story! Funny how kids minds work!!

Have a safe and fun Halloween!

I can't choose just one! All of my Halloween memories from childhood are terrific! I grew up in Crooked River Plantation (St. Marys, GA), which was a large development with lots (between 15 and 20) of individual streets and lots and lots of kids. We all knew each other, and the older ones were able to watch after the younger ones, so we would get to go without parents (because there were parents looking out everywhere!).

I've had the same two best girlfriends since we were five years old, and nearly every year we would dress similarly (usually some variety of zombie cheerleader or hippie...) and we'd have a big group of friends to roam the neighborhoods with. There was at least one haunted house on nearly every street, and it was the greatest!

It makes me sad that my kid brother, who grew up at our family beach house (we moved here permanently when he was about 5) doesn't have many memories of those times. Living down in Seagrove, at the time, there just weren't any kids, so Halloween was an entirely different event for him. I just think Trick-or-Treating at a resort or shopping complex is a little strange--I know that there's not really a way around it down here, but it's weird... :idontno:

I know how you feel, our kids grew up in Osage Beach MO, while not on the coast, there were/are few neighborhoods, so during their early years we went out for pizza and as the malls, only two, developed, we went there. As today's society has evolved, it is safe and just what my grandchildren do. You just try to make it special.

I have great memories of every Halloween - even though for some reason it was almost always freezing cold and rainy for trick and treating. We would go out trick or treating for hours until we got too cold, then come home, peel off the layers of wet costumes and clothes, then sort our candy on the kitchen floor in our pjs with hot chocolate.

To reduce our candy consumption, Mama Scooterbug would make us put all the chocolate bars in the freezer for treats when we were cross country or downhill skiing, then she always "forgot" to bring them with us.............so she had to eat them. ;-)

Mama Scooterbug would sew our costumes for us from scratch - and thanks to them having to be big enough to go over our snowsuits, I still wear one of them decades later!

In high school we would take Canoehead's baby brother with us - his tiny cuteness ensured we still got candy since we were "too old" to trick or treat.

Halloween is my favorite holiday! It's all about having fun dressing up and being creative! And carving pumpkins!

It's one of my favorite holidays too! Taking Jackson tonight here in the hood and I'm making Tasso Sauce Piquant for after and a big ole bottle of wine.

My friends and I definitely employed that method a time or two...

One of my very favorite memories was when our son was about 3. He haaaatttteeeed costumes and would go postal at the mere sigh of a mask. On the other hand his sister adored it and would dress up at the drop of a hat. The year he was 3 sissy got sick and couldn't go, so off me and our little Indian went. Headdress and painted face and a fake tomahawk. He cried at the first two houses, I figured I'd just be able to have an early night. By house number 3 the flashbulb went off. "Hmmm, I say this trick thing, people smile tell me I'm cute and give me candy!" Well let me tell you, this child took off like he'd been fired out of a rocket! By house number five, with no prompting he was not asking, but demanding candy for his poor sick sissy!!! Then he cried every night for the next week to go trick-or-treating.

My funniest story, when I was about 8 or 9, back in the day...all the kids trick-or-treating. It was a kinder, more innocent time so we could do that then. We went to one house on our block that was rented to University of Ga. students (we didn't know that:blink:). They felt so bad all these little kids standing there with our bags open and no candy to be found, they gave us all a PBR, unopened and sent us on our way. :funn: Back in the day, you had to have a punch can opener so we took it home and my daddy was really tickled when I walked in and announced very loudly that I had gotten him a PBR! Like I said, it was a kinder, gentler time.
