Agreed. I think this is more of a factor than what Clift writes about, though I think she may be on to something. Whatever the case, it's a setback for rational thought.

Knee-jerkism means support is not based on sincere appraisal of the candidate. Clearly Palin was picked in order to capitalize on this with disgruntled Hillary supporters, and clearly the plan failed miserably. If we could somehow get western Pensylvania to clone itself and multiply like a virus, Palin would have a shot at the Presidency.

Basically what I got from the article is that Palin is the "token female" who proves the Republicans aren't sexist - basically the same flawed logic that you aren't racist if you claim to have A black friend.

And you are ok with gay people because you have one as a friend, like Palin referred to during the campaign.

Cheney has a gay daughter and he nor Bush accepted her during their campaign. That didn't hunt!
