Christmas celebrations begin; woman knocks down pope at Mass - CNN.com

(CNN) -- A woman jumped a barrier at the start of Christmas Eve Mass at St. Peter's Basilica and knocked down the pope, briefly disrupting ceremonies.
Screams erupted from onlooking worshippers when the woman ran toward Pope Benedict XVI and grabbed onto his vestments as he walked down the main aisle of the church, video footage showed.
He was quickly helped to his feet by his aides -- prompting cheers from the crowd -- and the service was resumed, Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told CNN.

Very tacky that people captured it on video BECAUSE THEY ALREADY HAD THEIR CELL PHONES OUT AND TAPING DURING XMAS MASS AT THE VATICAN!

It's a religious service in the granddaddy of them all church w/ apostles, saints, and popes buried below!

Nuns standing on chairs to see the Pope - understandable. People recording on their cell phones (which means they are on) during Christmas Mass at an incredibly holy place - not appropriate.

Plenty of photo ops outside, before, and after.

The Pope has a hotline to god. If god gets all excited over meat on Friday and plastic baggies for your weenie then I'm sure he'll weigh in on cell phones in church. Until then you could let your cell phone phobia go.

P.S. Just because a cell phone is on doesn't mean it's going to ring, mine has airplane mode that turns off all transmitters so I can play games, watch movies, still use the camera, etc.

Oh yeah, since we're all up in the religious spirit I'll leave you with this:

Judge not, that ye be not judged. Matthew 7:1

As Carrie Prejean might ask, "where in the bible does it say you can't have a cell phone in church?"

I was just going to say, I don't have a god in this fight. Who cares?:idontno: Let the Catholics, believers, whatever worry about their own etiquette. It's not my place to get involved. Not only that, in a crowd like that I'd be more concerned with things of the silent (but deadly) variety than somebody's ringtone.

That perfectly embalmed body in the Vatican is spoooooooooky! Other than that, I think it's a cool place ridled with a lot of controversy, just like the rest of the world.

P.S. I feel certain my phone rang during church one time. I didn't answer it, but am conscious of sliencing it now. If I was at a Mass Concert type thing, I might roll some video.
