Ours has warmed up to 18. In all seriousness, it's supposed to be like this for this area - ha! But it doesn't make it any easier for this former Alabama girl. At least we have appropriate clothing for it. You guys don't.

We are supposed to get snow on Thursday too, Lynnie. I can handle the snow any day over the deep freeze temps.

Enjoy it!!

I used to have the clothes. but after never needing them most went to goodwill eventually.

but I have a few sweaters, coats and scarves (nothing heavy mind you). we'll survive the high 40s and low 20s. somehow;-). where is the homemade soup? guess I gotta drive to publix in all that cold sunshine out there. that car heater had better crank.

hey JR - stay warm. 18? way colder than here so what am I complaining about?

We are under a Winter Storm Warning for Thursday, there will be no bread, milk or eggs left at any store. Lines at the gas stations will be horrible. Lows in the single digits tonight, high today is 24, WC of 12.

Warnings such as this, make Memphians act like it is the Apocalypse.

Nearly the entire eastern half of the United States is enduring bitterly cold temperatures not experienced since 1985. Even Florida, which has been hovering around freezing levels overnight recently, is also feeling the almost-nationwide chill.

"It'll be like the great winters of the '60s and '70s," said AccuWeather.com Chief Meteorologist and Expert Long Range Forecaster Joe Bastardi.

sounds like our tropical storms or hurricanes. I know you gotta be prepared. Most of us now keep pantries full of food and water - I would NOT run out of food for months. water maybe. (I need to restock water). and I can do without milk or eggs or bread for a few days.

no, my fear would not be food. it would be lack of heat!!! at least in a hurricane event its usually in warm months - we can live in warm/hot weather with no power just fine (as we have done in the past). I wouldn't want to be left without heating in this cold.

Yes it can be really dangerous. The Wind Chill here has been 15 and so many people are just not used to or prepared for this kind of cold. The city has opened shelters for those that are homeless or in lack of adequate heating.

Several fires due to trying to stay warm have happened with lives lost. Many people use space heaters and they can be so dangerous.

With many out of work, the high utility bills will not help. And my car won't start, :bang:I am ready for Spring.

I could not do it, I have enough problems dealing with anything below freezing.

So I woke up to a commotion late today. Apparently some of the "foreign" workers were having lunch in the park on Eastern Lake. I couldn't figure out why they were so excited until I looked at the canal and realized that the ice flow was moving past. Apparently the entire thing froze over night and was slowly breaking up. I'm sure it'll do it again tonight so I'll get pictures this time. I'd love to have a picture of myself standing in the middle of the canal on frozen water. That'd throw the tourists for a serious loop.

 Pittsburghers do the same thing and we should be more accustomed to the winter storm warning. Who doesn't have enough food in their house to last for a day or two? It may not be what I want to eat but I doubt I would starve.

Stay warm Minnie! We are supposed to get above freezing next week so my guess is Memphis will be warming up as well.
