Hate to sound like a broken record, but if we don't actively work on bringing more jobs here, and loosening requirements and fees for exsisting businesses, we'll be in serious trouble!

Agreed. Florida also has the highest foreclosure rate in the whole US. That coupled with the unemployment figures makes Walton County in a bad state already but as long as someones cousin or step brother has a piece of land that Walton County can build a school or post office on, then they will bury their heads in the sand as long as the good ole boys have money in their pockets, they do not care about anyone else. Nepotism is alive and well in Walton county and running rampent and no one is doing anything about it.

Money making in Destin

The people who own property or businesses in this type of area did not get wealthy by sharing the wealth.....the idea is to make money elsewhere and vacation here. So I guess we are all at least fortunate to have the same view as the rich and famous, even if we are on unemployment.

It it is so hard in South Walton, then get out... I made a very big mistake 2 1/2 yrs. ago, I moved to the hell hole of DALLAS. The traffic is horrific everyday, the people are MEAN, and very SNOOTY. And trying to find a job in the industy I was in at South Walton, well no way, they dicreminate against older people. I was in the food service industry at one of the resorts making very good money. Came here to be closer to my grandbabies, but to get a job bartending, hell no. I was never discreminated against there in SoWal. I would give anything to come back there, but for now I am stuck here. Can't make enough money to even pay my rent, thank God for my daughter, she has to help me, and that makes me feel terrible. I do have a job (RETAIL) and we all know what that pay's. Just can't wait to get back there. so you see you might think SOWAL is bad for employment, just go to the big city, no better

If I can't have my fave coffee and am reduced to drinking Tom Thumb swill I just pretend that I'm in the desert and this is the only coffee available. From that perspective, it tastes good.

Keeping up with the joneses is a mirage: the joneses don't exist.

If all else fails, I eat a piece of cheesecake, or two, and watch my favorite show. Somehow when this happens, there is magic in the air, and I forget what was bothering me in the first place. After all, tomorrow is another day.
