State of the Union Address

This is my first day to join SoWal.....day of the State of the Union Address by Obama. Highlights were the Tax incentives for small business, Recovery Act for new railroads (in Tampa, Fl.) Rebates to clean energy homes. Tax breaks to jobs given in America instead of overseas.... House has approved some of these steps; Senate will need to do the same.
The truth is these steps will not make up for loss, people are hurting in America today.
We need to take control of this problem and stand up to our leaders.
As people of a great nation, ask them to make adjustments. Vote for those people that can make a real difference.
Should Banks need to make financial adjustments to meet our current market values of our Real Estate and after current appraisals; make their note payments equal to our current values? This would help reduce our payments and gain back our equity in Real Estate. No one should go broke because of a problem produced by the financial institutions and their allowance of loans to piggy back on nesteggs allowing (2nd mortgages) too many high-risk loans causing a balloon of prices across the nation.....now is the time to make it right! A normal Real Estate market should gain approximately 10% a year in appreciated values.

Well, enough of my thoughts, what about yours?:welcome:

Obamamath:

6% increase in spending on education + billions for a second stimulus=
"freeze" in domestic spending.

Is he stupid or does he think the American people are stupid?:pissed:

The last ten minutes of the speech was inspiring. There was not a peep in the "house". I can't wait to read the transcript. The meat of the speech though was bull and seemed to fly in the face of reality. Did you notice that Obama arriving and leaving the house chamber always has his back to the republican side ? Hard to believe with the vast majority he enjoys, he has not been able to pass anything. On the one hand he is conciliatory and then he turns very combative. Not a good approach for bi-partisanship. I wish him success because we are all in the same boat.

Inspiring speeches have their place but the body of the speech presents nothing but more of the same. I was hoping for concrete ways to reduce the debt and help small business. Guess we'll have to eat all that inspiration.

Well, you didn't get that in the overly produced Republican Response, either. There are concrete ideas, they've been mblocked by the lock step Republicans who refuse to craft compromise, and foster gridlock by not offering any new ideas.

The country is a mess a decade in the making, but I don't like your ideas so I shall sit here and pout and do nothing and try to make you look bad for two years so I can have my committee chairmanship back. Yes, that's so much better than what the President has done.

You have a valid point, Idlewind. I have been looking for some of the same. What was included in the American Recovery Act for small business unfortunately does nothing much to help a sector that accounts for half of this Countries GDP. Loans are being made to through the SBA, however they must have perfect credit, very little debt and it's collateralized. This is even for businesses that have a long history. However, loans are given more consideration if the business is in a distressed or low income area, which makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. The only sector for small business that benefits from the Act are infrastructure, broadband and green technologies, all noble enterprises, but if you are a retail store or small distributor, etc, does nothing to help you. They did continue the capital expenditures expensing and reduced the capital gains on stock held for SB owners for 5 yrs or more, but this does zilch for spurring new business ventures, help long standing businesses who had to lay off numerous employees or refinance or lower the rate for current SBA loan holders.

I was not inspired by the response either.

This results from leaders who have an agenda that does not include helping common people. Both sides are infected.
