State of the Union Address

So, by your reasoning, the Republican administration from 2001-2009 was largely ineffective (except for a couple elective wars that didn't do so good), as is the present administration for the 12 months it has been in office. I guess it all comes down to a fairly do-nothing congress for the past nine years that has done nothing (Reps and/or Dems) but pass spending bills. And now, since nobody was watching the greed on Wall Street, you're going to fault the guy who just stepped in for spending money to"prime the pump"? If any of the Republicans want to chime in with a way to jump start the economy without spending money, let's hear it!

I just want the government to be more balanced. That was the point I made in my original post you referenced.

Balanced, IMHO, would be for the Democrats to try to use their "majority" (which was voted on by the electorate) to present their policies for at least four years, which would hopefully "neutralize" some of the mess which has been perpetuated by the 4, 6 , or 8 years of Republican rule (whichever way you want to count it). I cannot understand why Republicans cannot admit that the collapse of the financial system happened on their watch.

I didn't watch it, but just saw a clip about a contest of fidgeting between Biden and Pelosi?? Biden won! Then, the comment, "It's not pilates, it's Peloses!" :floor: :floor:

This is funny stuff!

...we should all be praying for "God's" help in this time of need!
:idontno:
I'm all about prayer and God, but since when did God play a roll in gov't or the economy? When you refer to relying on God to fix the market, maybe you mean the invisible hand of the free and open market.:idontno:

Change is defined very differently by many people. I personally disagree with what the President wants to change about our nation. As long as I have fundamental differences with the President, and any other elected official, I am not going to "support" them for the sake of "unity". We think that argument and debate is bad. Our government was designed to function with those built in. I don't agree with saying no for the sake of saying no, but in most cases when it comes to this administration I find myself saying no to what they want to do. I honestly disagree with their agenda, and unless their agenda changes I will continue to disagree with them. It is pretty simple math.

How much more support can he get. He had a super majority for a year and didn't get health care reform passed. You can't blame the political minority for stopping that. At any point they could have passed that bill.

JC - your honesty is refreshing, and your way of expressing your opposing view is always thoughtful.

just wanted to say that Health Care reform deserves much more than a year to be planned much less passed. I do not understand the shortsighted, hurry up and pass something quick so we can score a political point. We see too much of that in our local government, school boards, state govt and federal govt. its what makes them seem so incompetent. Because in the end - it is highly incompetent to develop policy in such a shortsighted way in order to win and take credit for its passage. What is wrong with real research, evaluation, education & involvement of professionals and citizens, and hard work over several years in order to find the very best solutions for this country? not just in health care, but in all matters. that is the change I expect to happen under Obama. I'm not seeing much of it though - it may be next to impossible in our political system. but its what I expect to see happen under the leadership of Obama's administration when I say I want chagne.

ARE YOU A MORTGAGE BANKER? There are more people in our area that are permanent residents (not just 2nd home owners) that have purchased during this anomoly priced bubble; not aware that their property values were going to decline immediately and now unable to
suffice their staying in that situation.....just paying on a monthly note
for an over-exagerated value that they initially bought. My point is that
the Banking institutions could and should re-evaluate their assessed
values on today's current market and adjust their indebtedness to help in this national crisis. This may be my wishful thinking, but I do have many acquaintances that work and play here full time that are struggling.

Hells no!

I think it very fair that your taxes/assessments will go down because the market value of your home has decreased. I think it would be great if you could refinance or work something out with the bank to make it easier for you.

But I don't think you should get a break just because you chose to buy something at a high price and it has decreased in value. MANY people warned that this couldn't last, that values were inflated, and that a correction was long overdue. You even referred to it as "an anomaly price bubble."

Your home's value will go up again in the long run - at that point do you think it fair that the bank increase your mortgage?
