So, will we ever see bi-partisanship, or civility, again?

Its Krugman. What do you expect? He is one of those journalists who is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

I don't think we live in 2 different worlds - I think we are told 24/7 by people w/ an agenda that we do!

Pretty interesting to see the difference in discussions when there are not partisan "talking points" - just our ideas, opinions, and questions.

The fallacy is that there ever was an era of bipartisanship in Congress. Other than maybe in times of war, civil agreement has been the exception rather than the rule.

It's kind of interesting to me how bipartisanship can be bipartisan. By that I mean that everyone seems to agree that we should all get along, but when you get down to it they feel that if the other side wasn't so stupid we could probably come together.

Imagine a world where congress got along and they could work to pass bills without months of political pandering? Imagine where we'd be; in debt to our eyeballs, living in bliss and happiness, or speaking Mandarin?

They are politicians with their own agendas, each one only as unique as it takes to keep working at getting re-elected. Democrat and Republican politicians are all in the same bunch in my opinion. I don't see a separation. The only difference in many cases is the names on the checks being written to the thousands of beneficiaries.

I find that if you wait long enough, the politicians' take on things change to the opposite. For example, back in 2005, I listened to Harry Reid give a great speech on the importance of keeping filibustering. Now, he has completely reversed course when it isn't in his own favor, and says that filibustering is bad. If you wait long enough, the earth spins around to a new day.

One can choose to fill their minds with the same propoganda from the same journalists, or choose balance with seeking views from the other side.

The problem is that no one uses the filibuster they simply threaten to use it and the rest of congress runs in fear. If your going to threaten to do it I suggest you show up on the floor with a stack of newspapers and phone books to follow through.

Regardless of your beliefs, filibusters are not always done in the manner Jimmy Stewart did it in "Mr Smith Goes to Washington".
