40% of All Americans Believe This???

I actually think Creationism should be taught to those who wish to be schooled in it, and as an offering at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University.

...but 40% of all Americans believe that the Earth is only several thousand years old? Scary. I say apply science where necessary.. do it for God's sake, this myth is like "death camps", the 2012 Apocolypse, and non-existant birth certificates. Enough fantasy already!

P.S. The Science Dept. must be pretty bad at Liberty.

You can't prove or disprove everything you can't see. This argument will continue to go on til the end, whenever that is, and people will always disagree about this. No matter what is discovered about this, people are going to believe what they decide to believe regardless of the information presented. Most people have already formed their belief systems as children and as adults just continue to adopt similar facts into their belief system that already exists. There is always an exception to the rule, but this pretty much spells it out. So unless you are just looking for someone to be on your side, this is just not an argument that can be won. Percentages higher or lower than what you believe will not prove or disprove the truth. One day we will know, I believe.

It's kind of amazing considering the scientific data that discredits it. People used to believe by a large margin that the Earth was flat. Today there is an almost infinitesimal small percentage that still believe this, but they are generally considered nuts, and I don't see a flat Earth in schools debate raging anytime soon.

I'd have to throw in astrology, homeopathy, feng shui, and super expensive stereo cables.

Considering we have recorded history that completely refutes that, it isn't in quite the same category as stereo cables.
