Census in Walton County

This is a reminder to mail in your Census form if you received one. If you live south of the Bay you will not receive one in the mail due to the high number of rental houses in South Walton County. An enumerator from the Census Bureau should either have come to your house or be coming very soon to take the survey in person. If you received a notice on your door informing you of a missed attempt please call the number provided in a timely fashion so that you can complete yours. While it is preferable to do it in person you can do it by phone if after speaking to the enumerator you are unable find a mutually agreeable time. If you don't contact them or put it off you run the risk of having a neighbor or property manager being questioned as a proxy. In the event the enumerator is unable to contact you or a proxy your house will likely be identified as unoccupied. If you have received a missed contact notice please don't put it off; you have a limited time to be counted. For the next ten years these numbers are going to dictate our federal funding as well as how many represent us in the House of Representatives. If anyone believes they have a valid concern about not being counted please call the local census office in Pensacola at 850-288-7330. If you need to go further up the chain, the Pensacola office is overseen by the regional office in Atlanta. Those numbers are (404) 730-3832 or 1-800-424-6974. Walton county has grown tremendously in the past ten years and if we don't speak up we very well may be missed.

Here is a link to a map that shows the completion rate of each county in the country. Walton County is currently at 47%.

Whose decision to skip south of the bay? There are a fair number of us down here who would like to be counted, but nobody at Census wants to bother?

Keep reading the OP, someone will be by your residence to collect your information. If you're not home they'll leave a note and you can schedule a time.

I would rather fill out the form on my own and not have to have someone come into my home to ask me the ten questions. Can't believe the government can't figure out who is a permanent resident that lives south of the Bay, don't they have records? If they can't do this and then are willing to pay someone 21 dollars an hour to come to my house to ask questions...how do they plan to run health care and other government take overs. I am going to the library and see if I can't pick up a copy to fill out.

Can I have your extra form? I don't want anyone coming by my place either.
Seriously, is there a local location to get the needed forms to fill out?

Not to comment on the other complaints, but the census person who came to my house didn't ask to come in and it only took a couple of minutes at the door to answer the questions. Who lives at the address, our relationship, if it's a full-time or part-time residence, our ages, birthdates and race.

Ditto, nice, elderly retiree from Pensacola, asked me a few quick questions and was on his way. Families have to fill out a bit more, but really, it's like three minutes out of your life. I had a nice conversation with the guy about foreclosures in the area.

$12.00 an hour for our area. Mostly going to folks who need a little extra cash in hard times. Plus, this is constitutional, they have to do it so the House accurately represents the population.

There are a lot of issues worth complaining about in the current administration's policies, but this isn't one of them. It doesn't make any difference who's in charge, the feds have to get this job done.

I'm out of rep, so I'll just publicly say THANK YOU!
