It's Love a Tree Day. So, go out and give a tree a great big hug.

Trees are a good thing. They give us shade, comfort and warmth. They give off oxygen, too. There are many, many benefits provided by trees. So, you have good reason to love a tree or two.

Everyone has a favorite kind of tree. Use today to identify a tree you love, and to pamper it. Give it a trim. Eliminate competitors around it. Feed it a dose of fertilizer. Tree spikes work great. And, give the tree some water, if it is thirsty.

Important Note: On Love a Tree Day, your attention must be turned toward trees. A bush or a shrub just won't do.

What's your favorite tree?

I am priveleged to live in the middle of a grove of scrub oaks (also known as dwarf live oaks). They are the smallish, twisty kind you see throughout Seagrove. They are reminiscent of oversized bonzai plants in that you can chop and trim limbs, and they just keep sprouting new ones. I built my house right amongst them and never realized how much limb trimming I would be doing. They are incredibly resilient to the hurricane force winds we get from time to time, and I feel very protected. I think my trees are smarter than me, because they stay just enough out of my way that I never feel I have to chop a whole tree down just for my selfish convenience.

I love the scrub oaks. Little works of art in my book!

This is my favorite--the Desert Willow. I can't grow them in my yard--too shady, but oh how I love them. They're small and compact, but simply gorgeous when in bloom!

That is pretty, DD. I love my giant oak! I will hug it today. I digg the scrub oaks, too. My favorite is the Live Oak with moss in the canopy! We had so much fun climbing them on the farm! I also really like Magnolias!
