A YouTube video of a 2-year-old Indonesian child smoking a cigarette is spreading like wildfire on the Internet--and we don't find it funny. It's truly sad.A reporter spotted the smoking toddler in the fishing village of Musi Banyuasin, in Indonesia's South Sumatra province, and took the video, according to reports. The child is a chain smoker, puffing on at least 40 cigarettes a day.

"He's totally addicted," Mum Diana, 26, told the British Sun. "If he doesn't get cigarettes, he gets angry and screams and batters his head against the wall. He tells me he feels dizzy and sick."

According to Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency data, 25 percent of children ages 3 to 15 have tried cigarettes, and of those 3.2 percent become active smokers. Indonesia is the third largest tobacco consumer country.
A story on MSNBC.com indicated that the government is trying to put a stop to this:
Child advocates are speaking out about the health damage to children from secondhand smoke, and the growing pressure on them to pick up a cigarette in a country where one-third of the population uses tobacco and single cigarettes can be bought for a few cents.
Seto Mulyadi, chairman of Indonesia's child protection commission, blames the increase on aggressive advertising and parents who are smokers.
"A law to protect children and passive smokers should be introduced immediately in this country," he said.
A health law passed in 2009 formally recognizes that smoking is addictive, and an anti-smoking coalition is pushing for tighter restrictions on smoking in public places, advertising bans and bigger health warnings on cigarette packages.
Let's hope some good can come out of this video spreading like wildfire on the Internet. Maybe someone will get this child some help.

The Mommy Files : Video: Toddler smokes 40 cigarettes a day

That's bad news. At that age I would only smoke when I'd been drinking.

The good news is that he used to smoke only unfiltered Camels. At least now, he's taking his health into consideration!
:funn:

Very sad. You can hear cameras, too! My guess is he is addicted to the attention. However, he's also very overweight and his growing body probably has so much stress.....this child doesn't stand a chance for a long healthy life, unfortunately.

Of course your kid cries when you take away his cigarettes - he's a baby and addicted to nicotine.

Put on your big girl panties and wean the little fatso off the cigarettes, it's called being a parent!

I mean the draw of people to it reminds me of that. I've seen people commenting on it on FB like it was just a "freak" thing and laughing about it - and not seeing the fact that it is a BABY! 23,900 hits on youtube and first thing on google if you type "smoking ____". That means whoever posted it is about to get $$ for the video. I have a video on youtube that brings me $$ because when it got a certain amount of "hits" google contacted me, put up ads and now gives me $$ - not a lot, but still....

So it is as popular as a circus sideshow IMO.
