From Forbes Magazine

Walton County, FL ranks as the #5 top destination for rich Americans to move, from information gathered using IRS data.

Where America's Money Is Moving - Yahoo! Real Estate

Top 5 Places Where America's Money Is Moving

No. 1: Collier County, Fla.

No. 2: Greene County, Ga.

No. 3: Nassau County, Fla.

No. 4: Llano County, Texas

No. 5: Walton County, Fla.

To find places the rich are moving, Forbes used IRS data on household moves broken down by county and income. We included counties where arriving households are richer than households that didn't move and departing households are poorer than households that didn't move. The final ranking orders counties by the difference in per-capita income between incoming households and those that didn't move.

Walton Co. #5 on list of "Where America's $ is Moving"

I just read an article on Yahoo.com entitled "Where the Rich Are Moving". Number 5 on the list is Walton County, Fl. Please forgive me, I don't know how to create a link to the site, but thought some of you might find the info interesting/useful.

So 25%+ of that number is effectively because of urban sprawl and the build-out of southern Okaloosa.

A large influx from surrounding regions would seem to be consistent across all the counties listed.

No. 1: Collier County, Fla.
Top origin: Lee County, Fla. (2,987 people)

No. 2: Greene County, Ga.
Top origin: Putnam County, Ga. (76 people)

No. 3: Nassau County, Fla.
Top origin: Duval County, Fla. (1,721 people)

No. 4: Llano County, Texas
Top origin: Burnet County, Texas (312 people)

What urban sprawl? Miramar Beach?

I'd say more like folks moving to a more desirable place nearby to raise a family (better schools), and a different (better, if you like less crowded, cleaner, slower) lifestyle. I have also met plenty of people who moved or expanded their businesses from Okaloosa to Walton, and relocated.

Not to get into it too much, but how many Ivy League and service academy-bound students does South Walton HS produce compared to Niceville and when's the last time they had an Intel Science Talent Search semifinalist?

That's going to be tricky to answer, because students from Sowal can elect to go to Niceville. The question should be, how many of the Niceville high achievers are actually from Sowal, or Walton County?

A lot of them are Eglin-related military folks. As for the Walton crowd, I suspect the most common transfers are the Hwy 20 corridor set and why would you send a kid to Freeport High when there are other options?

Going back to the original article, since it's a whole county study, Freeport is starting to draw the base crowd that's looking for a new home at an affordable price comapred to what you'd pay in the FWB/Niceville area and also thinks that Crestview is too far from what makes the area unique.
