Beach Crab
Hi,
Can you believe this!!
I need Help.
Sandeston Resort has a housing complex in my neighborhood. Hunters Run Santa Rosa Beach. Every summer Sandestin brings cheep Jamaican workers in to work and Sandestin housed them in this complex. The imported workers set up a band in my neighborhood. Its Like a full blown bar band amplified here in my neighborhood. They play all night long. It keeps us awake. The residents and homeowners here call the Walton county sheriffs office but the sheriffs office doesn't do anything, We called the executive office of sandestin and they do nothing. Many nice families in the neighborhood have moved out because this problem has been going on for years. Those of us who own homes here are stuck with inflated mortgages and no hope of selling. The only people that owners can rent to is young kids that dont mind the crazy atmosphere,

Sandestin Resort would never stand for this kind of activity on the resort but they don't mind bringing this element to our home.

Walton County Sheriffs Office wont do anything and this is an extreme problem, PLEASE VOTE FOR A SHERIFF THAT WILL HELP KEEP OUR AREA IN CONTROL. This Sheriff thinks that this kind of problem isn't his job.

Ganga Fest 2010!!!!!

Ah, Jamaican Independence Day! A very crazy party to be certain. I don't think Sandestin would ever consider doing anything about the situation. Local law enforcement is your best bet, but...... when it comes to this party, it's a once-a-year thing. I'm just guessing that the Sheriff's Dept. is mostly concerned w/ safety and crowd control when this happens. Just my two cents, but is your concern w/ this annual event or the presence of "employee housing" nearby and all of the other caveats it brings?

I remember when i first started working at the Sun answering phones, a woman called and wanted a copy of our newspaper. Specifically she asked about any story we might have covered involving the death of her son, who had fallen to his death in Sandestin. I think he was a construction worker. We had nothing on the incident. I learned then that Sandestin is like its own city. It's like vegas, what happens in Sandestin, stays in Sandestin. You probably won't find any Walton county law enforcement in Sandestin.

I would call the sheriff and tell him that you are not getting help from his staff. I would then call the home owners that Sandestin are renting from and let them know of the problem.

Lastly, I would call one of the local TV stations or newspapers to do a segment. One thing the S.O. nor SD will like is negative publicity.

I believe Channel 13 has a sement to 'help' people solve problems just as you have described. Give them a call and let us know what happens.

A couple of questions.

First, exactly what law are they breaking? Unless there is a noise ordinance in your area, or unless they are drunk and disorderly in the streets, I can't think of anything the SO could actually do. Sounds like a civil matter and your HO association might want to explore their options.

Second, is this the housing behind John-John's Auto Parts, or near Flamingo Village on 30A? In either case, didn't Sandestin build the housing, specifically for its seasonal workforce? (Admittedly I might not have all the facts on that one. But Sandestin being the landlord is what I was told.)

And one more - is this all summer long, or just the holiday mentioned above?

We saw your comment and want to assist

Thank you for letting us know about this situation. Regretfully we were not informed of this specific disruption you described. We have zero tolerance for problematic events.

The population this year is composed of people from many parts of the world, including employees, interns, Le Grand Cirque performers, and contractors.

Our senior executive who oversees that facility will be happy to meet with neighbors there, listen to concerns and attempt to alleviate issues.

Please let us know how we can contact you. Thank you.

Officers drive through the neighborhood every now and then. Off duty officers also work at bayside doing security. Sandestin security handles most minor issues up front, I imagine the walton county sheriff appreciates the help.

..and the old farts who live here year round do a pretty good job of chasing down kids who sometimes cruise around too fast. Honest, they'll pull up, stop, walk right up to you and give you a serious tounge wagging lecture when you get out of your car. :D (Not that I speak from experience or anything, no no, not me.)
