Until the oil disaster, we are bummed when our days in the gulf are limited, but now we realize since we do love to vacation on 30A there is more to do. My husband teaches so we can't come down when the water might be better.
I think it is interesting (karma) that since the oil disaster, first, the oil rig was closer to LA, the storms have taken the oil toward LA, and the winds have been from the NE mostly. And LA is the state that is so eager to get back to drilling.
Anyway, we have to appreciate the gulf even more now and realize that it is changing always despite the oil mess. We've never been there for red tide so can't imagine. Have been there for waves that are too rough and you get tired of that unless you are a surfer. Have been there when there are rip currents and you could only walk around the edge. And June grass. We've been lucky all these years - hardly any rain unless it's the infamous late afternoon shower - by that time we should be in off the beach to clean up for dinner
Ideally, I would love to go out in the water and stand there and 'bob' all day for 7 days but that has happened to me once and that was in Cancun (north side). Otherwise I am more than happy to sit in our lovely sand chairs with our feet in the water staring at the beautiful changing colors of the water and the sky.
If the sun get too hot, we retreat to the safety of an umbrella.
Sorry, we've got 4 1/2 months until our next vacation. Ellen
