Petreaus: Burning Qurans = Lives at Risk

New posts
I guess I don't see a world in which we show a modicum of respect for basic religious beliefs as one where "lunatics win."

I cannot think of something MORE offensive to a Muslim then what this church wants to do.

IMO a little common sense and respect is what is sadly lacking in this entire cluster..............and most every religious conflict.

Who is anyone to say that a Bible is less important than a Koran? If I'm a Christian the Bible is important to me. The Koran pages could be used to wipe my butt for all I care. Do I get upset if some wacko Muslim burns a bible? No.

Anyone that thinks their beliefs are more important than mine and tries to force them upon me will be dealt with swiftly to the highest degree. I keep to myself and I expect others to extend the same courtesy. Too often people get so civilized they forget how to stand up for their beliefs.

AndrewG, your last paragraph is precisely the viewpoint of atheists living in our religious world...

Burning a thousand Qurans is disrepectful to our Constitution.

There are men and women whose lives are being endangered by this idiotic act.

But it is Gainesville...and maybe it will jinx the Gators.

They have every right to do it, the copies belong to them and they can do with them what they want.
But this is as perfec ant illustration of an UN-CHRISTIAN act as I have seen lately. Jesus said "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." These people would scream bloody murder if someone burned a Bible. The world would be alot better place if people who called themselves Christian would act like one.

If it was the last of the remaining Korans being burned, I'd stand up and fight, but if I can go online and quickly pull the entire book, it doesn't immediately have value as a book. It isn't rare or anything.
Symbolically, it may have "value," but not to those who are burning it. In reality, the burning of the books should not upset anyone who is saying that people should not be able to protest the mosque in NYC. Don't get hypocritical.

Burning the koran or bible may be disrespectful to our Constitution, but I see many people crapping on the Constitution every day. What's new? The Constitution gives us the ability to burn such things if we want. Society, on the other hand, has a way of controlling those things on a local level.

Maybe we should take a road trip down there on the day they plan to do it and burn a few bibles across the street? I'm game. Lets toss a few Korans in there too, for good measure.

I don't think anybody should be burning bibles but it doesn't bother me personally. I'm more disturbed that you could end up on a hit list for doing so. It hasn't been that way in the USA however, and we need to keep it that way. Zero tolerance for violence due to religious fundamentalism anywhere on Earth, but particularly within our hemisphere. I don't buy it that blasphemy is like shouting "fire" in a public place. An actual fire can't be ignored and must be acted upon. It's imperative. Can't say the same for blasphemy and the hurt feelings that result.
