CRAB ISLAND 360: As party ends, the revelry goes airborne (PHOTO GALLERIES) | crab, island, party - News - Northwest Florida Daily News
Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial grand finale for the people who love Crab Island.

Hundreds of boats anchored up last weekend to enjoy the sunny skies and catch the final round of the chicken fights. Bikinis, tattoos and dogs in life jackets were all there in full attendance.

The vendors were busy selling hotdogs by the dozen while kids bounced on the floating trampoline and ran like gerbils in the bubble ball.

Men dressed like chickens are front and center at the chicken fights to make sure there is no hair pulling or illegal scratching once the girls ?cluck like a chicken? to commence the water wrestle.

Down the way, Jimmy Buffet?s ?Margaritaville? is blasting from the karaoke barge and people on boats all around yell to ?turn it up!?

Aw man, Mr. DD's gonna be mad he wasn't there.

I have invoked the words of Kimmifunn regarding Crab Island before--

the world's largest urinal and ashtray. I will never forget these words.

ha! thanks for the reminder! that's great.

I've only been ONCE. it was enough. I guess shell island is more my speed.

You ever been to Crooked Island, the barrier island? It's right before you get into Mexico Beach. You really have to watch for the sign or you will miss it. We passed it up two different times. There were more people there this time than last year, could see some beach umbrellas set up out there this time, might have been maybe 10 cars. Really is along the stretch of Hwy 98 through Tyndall Air Force Base. You travel down this dirt road for a good ways before you come to a gravel parking area. We walked some of it last year when we were down, looks like you could walk forever on it. Really nice.

I know where you are talking about, have passed by many times. We have heard of this being a good place to explore. Thanks for the reminder!
