Thanks to the quick response and actions of Florida Division of Forestry(FDF) firefighters, three structures that had been potentially threatened are undamaged near the scene of a morning wildfire in the Glendale Community of north Walton County. The wildfire is believed to have been caused by farm equipment owned by the landowner off of Brown Road about 15 miles northwest of DeFuniak Springs. Intense west-to-east winds pushed the fire toward the east across grassy fields as well as through a small pine tree stand. The fire which was originally suspected to be approximately 100 acres, is now being called for the most part ?contained? and a final estimation of burned wildland acreage stands at 80 according to Brian Goddin wildfire mitigation specialist and public information officer with FDF.
Three divisions of FDF forestry tractor-plow units responded and plowed firelines (a.k.a. ?fire breaks?) all the way around the fire which is, at this time, just burning itself out within those lines as the FDF crews perform ?mop up? procedures on the fire. No one was reported as injured and no structures were damaged in the wildfire. Due to Mondays weather conditions?high winds and low humidity?no burning authorizations are being issued in any of the local area?s seven counties: Holmes, Washington, Calhoun, Bay, Gulf, Walton, and Jackson Counties with the exception of ?pile burning only? in Calhoun County only.
