AZ sheriff blames political rhetoric

New posts
No, his comments at that press conference were just over the top. I honestly can't believe people are trying to politicize the whole thing. Kinda sad.

Yea I guess stating that hateful talk could push someone mentally unstable over the edge could be considered over the top by some, especially those who love to listen to hateful rhetoric.

I would like to see Glen Beck decide to do something positive...to make a real difference in the world with the forum he has been given. Just think what he might do it he used his place in the world to unite rather than divide people in this country..

Certainly he and others of his ilk have a first amendment right to speak his/their minds...but, what positive influence does the ranting have? When he asks himself how have I contributed to the world in a positive way, I wonder what the answer is...

does anyone's little girl or boy look or listen to him and say, "when I grow up, I want to be a radio/television talk show person like Glen Beck?"

Does any little girl want to grow up and be like Keith Oberman and Rachel Madcow? Give me a break. This guy was mentally ill.

Or maybe he was just full of hate, knew exactly what he was doing and was hell bent on shooting some people, we just don't know.

I was appalled and sickened when I saw the map by Sarah Palin with the words "17 more to go"

I was also upset to see a "target" map by the democrats when Bush was in power

There is just NO place at all for maps like these and I DO hold Sarah Palin and her staff accountable as I would hold anyone accountable for putting targets or crosshairs on maps.

This is NOT a laughing matter - it is very serious, but I can't help but show the types of maps I'D like to see. And WHY NOT? Why not make things all flowery and peaceful? You can either "kill two birds with one stone" or "release two birds with one hand". I prefer the latter.

And when it comes down to it - I believe I fall into agreement with Scott Adams on this one:

"I believe everybody in the world should have guns. Citizens should have bazookas and rocket launchers too. I believe that all citizens should have their weapons of choice. However, I also believe that only I should have the ammunition. Because frankly, I wouldn't trust the rest of the goobers with anything more dangerous than string." ~ Scott Adams

That is mentally ill in my book.

Thankfully not according to law-

Criminal insanity is a defense which may be used in a criminal case. The criminal insanity defense argues that someone should not be held responsible for a crime because she or he did not understand the ramifications of the crime at the time due to an altered mental state. When someone is found not guilty by reason of insanity, it means that at the time the crime was committed, the person's mental state was such that he or she could not act willfully. The standards which must be met in order for this defense to be accepted vary around the world.

I disagree. I see the point Poppy was trying to make. There are mentally ill people and then there are people simply filled with hate. I don't think Timothy MeVeigh was insane. You can't do anything about the insane people. You can try to tone down the hate and fear rhetoric...and just possibly get a grip on our main problems.

There's a difference between a state by state map that uses statistics to show which districts should be focused on in the next election because of the results of the Presidential election, and a map that has gun sights to pinpoint the locations of a "to get rid of" list that lists candidates/districts by name and is based on their vote on 1 topic.

Not saying that both parties couldn't do with some major manners and ethics lessons (and many smacks upside the head IMO), just that Palin/Repubs were worse in this case.
