What's happening on Santa Clara Drive

in Seagrove. I've been watching it for several weeks now. At first, it looked like maybe utility work. Drove in there today and there's a major project underway. Curbs, sidewalks, parking. Is this spillover for the walkover on the other side of 30A?

Yes, it's additional parking for beach access in that area of Seagrove. It was a good spot due to the three accesses in close proximity, one of which has a restroom and ADA walkover. There were a series of public meetings held last year by the TDC as it was undergoing planning and design. Dave Sell at the TDC is your best contact for more information.

I noticed there is not a crosswalk on 30A at Santa Clara. One will be needed now.

There is one planned for the western side where Santa Clara meets 30-A, i.e. the new sidewalk meets 30-A.

I'm no engineering genius, but the fact that the sidewalk is 4" higher than the road (30-A) bothers the crap out of me. Seems very dangerous to me.

Exactly. When I saw that, I thought, "What were they thinking?" Not wheelchair friendly, not stroller friendly, not kids-in-a-wagon friendly, not pulling-a-big-cooler friendly, etc. If someone's vehicle hits it, it will be a real jolt at minimum.

Thanks for asking the question TreeFrog because I've been wondering too.

...not bicycler friendly, not pedestrian friendly...you could go on and on. I've been watching this project for months, and have never seen anything take so long.

What could possibly go wrong with a 4" piece of concrete sticking into a roadway where noone ever drives outside the lines and every bike rider is a pro? :sarc:
