What is the Tea Party?

Democrats controlled congress from 2007 - 2011. They wrote the budget for those years.

Not trying to argue that point but you were only comparing two presidential administrations not congress.

Look again, the lower scale is the date, Obama took office in Jan 2009. If you two can't see the obvious fiscal recklessness in these graphs, if you can't see that Obama has basically perpetuated the fiscal record of George Bush, there's no point in having this discussion.

The President of the United States is the person who signs a bill into law. He can always veto any bill he feels is wrong for the country. That what makes Scooterbug's post #107 that much more important to the issue. This shows the overall fiscal policies of a long line of adminstrations and all the oddities of congressional "control" will pretty much even out. The claim that Republicans are more fiscally responsible has been shown to be a falsehood. Period.

..and your claim that democrats are more fiscally responsible has been shown to be a falsehood as well. Period.

Historically mixed control (e.g. gridlock) usually results in the most fiscally responsible policy. We experienced this during Clinton's term and hopfully we are also getting it now.

Oh dear, now you've forced me to break out Excel. It's easy to change the results of those averages by chosing different time frames. For example, we could go all the way back to WWII and extend it through to Obama. How well do you think democrats record will be then? We shall find out. Although I'm more interested in the balance of power vs. who was sitting in the White House, because I'm convinced mixed party control is a better fiscal scenario. Also, the trends are very important but get ignored in an averages study. I don't think republicans will fair well, but neither will the democrats.

This will take a bit, I'll post back when I finish the work.

The old saying figures never lie and liars always figure or something like that comes to mind. I am a firm believer that you can always make statistics and figures say what you want to, if you know how to do it.

I was about to say the same thing. The apparent beauty of the above mentioned Post #107 is that it was a period in recent history when there were an equal number of Republican and Democratic administrations and defense spending was deleted. This seems to be a great way of comparing apples to apples. Shopper wants to change the time periods, which could be difficult as best, and could result in fruit salad, if you know what I mean. Wouldn't it just be easier for him to believe his own propaganda?
