Is anyone as put off as I am by "Competitive Eating?"
It seems insensitive at best to hold such contests while there is hunger anywhere in the world.
Also, it seems inappropriate in light of the obesity epidemic in our country.
Also, it's disgusting to see.
I don't think it reflects well on our society.
Other thoughts/opinions?

I dunno. I had about 20 cousins just on my Daddy's side. Just for fun every once in a while we'd pile up in cars and go to the Krystal on Lee Street near Pilgreen's in SW ATL (the Golds who owned Pilgreen's lived across the street from us in ATL). We'd have a contest to see who could eat the most Krystal burgers. My cousins Ronnie and Johnny always won. I was close because I was a feminist before feminism existed. My Daddy taught me that there was nothing I set my mind to do that a male could beat me at. Never won the Krystal contest, but Ronnie and Johnny don't have Ph.D.s in math. Hell, they don't have college degrees.

I win!

If I didn't have a hiatal hernia, I would have probably competed in the first-annual hot-dog competition in our town this weekend. The exercise to get rid of the calories would have been good for me. The Lipitor would help.:floor:

It's kinda stupid.

I think the WWF is pretty silly, but a lot of people find it entertaining. To each his own I guess.

I have similar feelings when I hear about shows that glorify the excess spending of couples on weddings or spotlight the bad behavior of brides.

Wasting food or gorging oneself while others starve is nothing new - and neither are the revolutions and bad feelings it causes.

Turn off the TV if it bugs you. These contests do not contribute to world hunger nor obesity, especially in light of the fact that it is now recognized that the best eaters are skinnies.

I'd be more concerned with the enormous amounts of food that goes into the garbage every day.

The NBA finals MVP was German. Mexico beat us in the Gold Cup. In the U.S. Open Golf tourney, no Americans in Top 5 in more than 100 years. Wimbledon, no Americans close to winning. This is what's left for us. Joey Chestnut is our new Jesse Owens.
