Figs

New posts
YUM!!!
Fig preserves, or just fresh, like an apple, is how I like to eat them... My folks have several trees in their yard, and I've always said I'd like to make a figgy pudding - I'm thinking of a bread pudding with figs, and maybe pears too, with a buttery caramel sauce drizzled over it. I really need to find a recipe, or maybe I'll just start experimenting.

On a side note, that is an amazing harvest! The ones at my parents' house are still very green, not really even close to ripe, I wonder why??

I've got new green ones still coming out. The tree is about 12 years old and I have never trimmed it back, although I will after this harvest. Other than that, it's never even been fertilized.:idontno: I like them fresh too, but they are high in sugar and I'm trying to not consume too much fruit right now. I wish my citrus would grow like this.

Anyone know where I might find some homemade fig preserves or jam? Mom arrives in a week and she counts on me for supply. I used to meet a lady in the church parking lot in dfs, think she has passed.

Lisa, there is somebody who comes to the Saturday market at Seaside that sells homemade fig jam. Can't remember the name, but Raw & Juicy would know. I've bought some and it is really good.

The best summer sandwich: focaccia prosciutto and figs, and if you can't to make it decadent add some cream cheese.

Renee from Twin Oaks Farms sells all kinds of delicious preserves at the farmer's market, including fig, and you can buy them from her online too!

In DFS, you can try the Alford's produce stand on Hwy 90, or Southeby's antiques store has a farmer's market on Fridays. There's also the Little Big Store.

Renee with Twin Oaks farms had fresh figs last Saturday, they were delicious, my sister made the best snacks July 4. She cut fresh figs in half then piped soft goat cheese on top then sprinkled finely chopped mint on the goat cheese swirl. Totally yummy and much healthy than the ritz cracker snack. For an instant piping bag put goat cheese in baggie and snip one of the corners, let cheese sit at room temperature for better piping.

Twin Oaks Farms preserves are my husbands favorite, you taste the fruit, so many jams and preserves taste too sugary. We had several jars of homemade figs from friends back in Louisiana and my husband declared Twin Oaks Farms the best.
