BP Payment to Florida due to oil spill to be taken from the 8 counties affected and given to 23 counties...

It appears Governor Scott is now trying to take over full control of the RESTORE process and BP funding that was to go to the 8 counties in the panhandle that suffered from the oil spill. This will give control to twenty-three counties voting on this issue and we will not have enough votes in the panhandle.

Having read most of the agreement it appears Governor Scott is now trying to take over full control of RESTORE process and BP funding. It was my understanding the 8 counties in the panhandle would be the recipients, but not if this agreement takes place. Twenty-three counties will be in control and will voting on issue. We don’t have the votes in the panhandle.

The discussion tomorrow at the courthouse, 8am, should be attended by everyone who has an interest in Walton County getting a fair shake in this deal. I’m sure there will be a lot of questions. No telling what the answers will be! I understand Commissioner Elect Bill Imfeld is a member of the group who put this together.

With the recent revelations of corrupt county commissioners wasting the funds and allowing corrupt TDC officials to buy such things as yachts and nice houses, Governor Scott decided that something needed to be done.

Perhaps Governor Scott is concerned that the corrupt redneck politicians in the panhandle only want to waste the money while it's hot.

Politics, sending the bacon where he can claim votes, because the Panhandle will vote for him because there is an R behind his name. Thought Senator Gaetz wanted this money to go to the locals, hmmmm is there a division between them, enquiring minds want to know!!

To cast all "Republicans" in the Panhandle, or elsewhere for that matter, as stupid, mindless robots is just plain ridiculous, Mr. Wells. There are many of us who believe the money from the BP oil spill belongs to those who were harmed by the occurrence. That is the coastal counties of Florida, particularly those in the Panhandle. If this is your position I suggest you call the governor's office and let him know it in no uncertain terms. The number is: (850) 488-7146. I certainly plan to do so, and yes, I'm a registered Republican.

You are correct, right or wrong, good or bad you are a Republican, I just made an observation as to what is going on and that Sen Gaetz, if memory serves me correctly wanted the same thing, the money coming here to affected counties, and asking the question whether there was a rift in the force, I was just wanting to know? As for contacting the Governor that is a great idea except unless it is going to have something that will assist him, I think he could send the money anywhere and still win Walton County and I dare say the whole panhandle. I would have said that about former Gov Crist and Alex Sink had she been elected. Just my opinion.

In my mind, too many people in the Panhandle give corrupt, unethical politicians a pass simply because they're Republicans. Just because someone is a Republican or Democrat, that doesn't mean that they are right. Senator Gaetz and other elected officials don't represent all the people in northwest Florida. There needs to be some accountability for the BP money by responsible, ethical people but greedy politicians are scrambling for their fair share. In Illinois Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. will be re-elected by a landslide in his district and corrupt Republicans sometimes enjoy the same privileges.

Call me polyanna but I have been associated with government all my life...well, at least until I retired, and I found very, very few, if any, associated with my dealings to be corrupt or greedy. Your vision of government, meggiemom, is very jaded, to say the least.

Actually they do represent all the people in their districts, you may not agree with them but they are our elected officials and they are representing us whether you or I agree with them or not.

Let me rephrase that. Some politicians don't represent the best interest of all citizens. That commissioner in Okaloosa County that made headlines didn't represent everybody's best interest. Just my opinion mind you. But people who behave in that manner are corrupt. People who take money from rich developers are representing my interests IN MY OPINION. I am free to have an opinion aren't I?
