Notice of Public Workshop and Call for Presentations for South Walton Sports Complex


Walton County will be holding their second Public Workshop in regard to the proposed South Walton Sports Complex on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 5:00 PM or soon thereafter at the South Walton Courthouse Annex located at 31 Coastal Centre Blvd., Santa Rosa Beach, FL.


As part of this workshop, there is a call for presentations to the public for any land owners that have parcels that they believe would be appropriate for the location of the proposed complex. Any property that may be considered must meet the following standards:



· Must be located in South Walton


· Must be at least 20 contiguous acres


· Must be upland property that is suitable for building and have permanent or granted access from a major thoroughfare


Any land owners who would like to present their property for consideration can do so by registering to speak at the meeting. To register, please contact the County’s Department of Public Information at 850-951-7101 or via email at WaltonAdmin@co.walton.fl.us.


Each presenter will be allotted no more than 10 minutes for their presentations. The County will be providing a laptop and projector. Please be prepared to bring with you (5) copies of your presentation to be left with the workshop facilitators. When registering, please include the following information and items:


· Property Owner/Presenter Name, Phone Number and Email (if possible)


· Address and location of proposed property


· Size of proposed property


· Copy of PowerPoint presentation or presentation notes



The registration deadline to be included in presentations is Tuesday, September 24th at 5:00pm.


Please be advised two or more Commissioners may attend this meeting.
Please be governed accordingly.

I looked at that website and all the links. It didn't take but a few minutes to see a dozen red flags on dealing with this Big League Dreams outfit. Frankly, if you read the information closely it looks like a well planned scam to suck in public money with so called partnerships and the taxpayers holding the bag. It's sort of like preach the gospel according to Big League Dreams and local promoters and eventually politicians and some duped well meaning folks buy in and try to strike a deal, and the public doesn't realize they have been had until it's too late!

The likelyhood of this sort of thing paying off with a profit to the county over expenses is about as remote as me flying to the moon. There have been no indepth fiacal studies or analysis like the finance officer did down in Clay County Florida.

The website along should generate a hundred questions for the public workshop coming up .

Leave this thing along and just deal with a decent sports facility for local people without complex partnerships of dubious distinction.

One thing that caught my eye were rosy predictions to suck in the suckers and the cost overuns to the tune of taxpayers picking up the tab.
