The goal of the site, writes Tom McLaughlin of NWFDailyNews.com, is to “put priorities of citizens at the forefront with elected officials. Then, hold us accountable for results!”

Great idea! I do believe that elected officials should be the voice of the people who elected them...not special interests groups, big developers, greedy politicians, lobbyists or big money.

I also believe that if people used the power of their voice more often we wouldn't need Constitutional amendments.

Less government, not more! People think websites like these are ineffective. I beg to differ. Most elected officials in this County know about this site and the issues discussed here and they know they are being watched.

This site hasn't stopped us from re-cycling the trash or the "born and raised here" mentality but it has effected meaningful change. When people actually have a voice in their government, they also have greater control over their own lives.

I admire the attempt. Open forums need moderation and I don't think government can handle it without opening all kinds of cans of worms.

The only way to hold politicians accountable is by being able to vote them out. But in most places the money needed to get elected has ruined that, and the restriction of voter rights and gerrymandering.

In Walton County as well as in other places elected officials are accountable only to the greedy developers, lobbyists, other greedy politicians and other big money special interests and it appears that there's no solution in sight. Campaign finance reform, however well intentioned, has never worked. In Florida, the $500 individual limit has only been an invitation to creative money laundering. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that when someone pays a lot of money to a candidate, something is expected in return.

I don't disagree j p but just think how much worse it would be if people weren't watching and speaking out.

Most recently, the school board was placed on notice by the people they are watching their children(s) education being squandered by special interests and poor management. Change is coming and its much needed. They may have lost the "YES" vote but they won the war for the children of this county.

When did the school board start having a voice in school management?

I haven't been to a board meeting lately but the procedure is that the superintendent sets the agenda, makes recommendations, and the board, aka the rubber stamp committee approves everything.

That's the standard M.O.

With all the recent attention this will start to cease.

Lots of people watching the queen and the soon to be new court. Hoping they won't be Jesters with family in the school leadership.
