American Sniper

New posts
There are at least two who post here who have no idea of what war or participation in it is like. Moreover, they have a tendency to tell those who have participated in it what they should have and should not have done. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to their trolling to get this type of response. They can't be so misinformed or stupid as to do otherwise.

Did someone on this thread suggest what participants should or should not have done? If so, I must of missed that. To which post are you referring?

Another thing that increases your chances of coming home is if you have a relatively cushy job, like being a sniper for instance.

You mean cushy as in living through 2 helicopter crashes, 6 IED attacks, and BEING SHOT 3 times? (In the case of Chris Kyle) http://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/2013/april/the-legend-of-chris-kyle-01?single=1

"leader...", I personally enjoy you as a provocateur. It forces people to defend their viewpoint and that's a good thing. :)

I stopped reading after the first paragraph in your link. The story of him killing the two men has been proven to be total made up BS. Next you will be claiming he shot people from the top of the Superdome during Katrina.

I'm reading the book. Have not seen the movie. The book is very detailed, but it's obvious, he was no writer. I guess I just expected a more novel-like read. My only comment on the subject: Navy Seals are highly trained. The training itself would be considered torture by Dem standards...waterboarding is an understatement. By the time they've cleared all those tactics, I imagine 'feelings' about what they're commanded to do is irrelevant. From what I've read so far, Chris Kyle was a natural leader, but he was also humble. He didn't just sit on rooftops capping Iraqis. He followed Rules of Engagement to the letter (Terrorists have none) and he did his very best to protect United States Marines, our allies, and innocent Iraqis on the ground. I know he recieved a lot of medals and accolades from higher-ups, (which he blows off as political bull****) but he also understood that politics played a huge role in the everyday events during the 'war'. When it come down to it, warriors are trained to be just that...and political pawns for world leaders.

I got logged off before I could finish. I don't envy the job of our military. I don't imagine they ever forget what they've seen 'in action'. I only have this to compare and it's no comparison: once I saw a biker wreck in front of me. I saw his head hit the pavement as cars went whizzing by. It took me weeks before I could even close my eyes and not see it happen over and over again. I cannot begin to imagine the atrocities the people in uniform have seen during war and each and every time they close their eyes.

Its not just the atrocities of war that one may see that affects participants. It is the overall view of war, itself as well and the memories derived from the entire experience.

It amazes me how a couple of cowards on this board are trying to dishonor the memory of this brave man. This hero put his life on the line fighting for all our freedom, including one who on his profile states enjoys gazing at the water, while the other calls the job of a sniper as cushy. You have got to be kidding. It reminds me of the two idiots out in Hollywood that had diarrhea of the mouth yesterday. These two can't even make a decent movie, but now they are experts on the job of a sniper. It's embarrassing how people that live in paradise can insult a solider that risks his life in hell on Earth to defend their freedom. I would bet that none of these cowards on SoWal or twitter would have the guts to say these things to Chris Kyle's father or his fellow SEAL team members.

I never made one disparaging remark about Chris Kyle. Do you have a guilt complex yourself? Sure as hell seems like it. Anyhow this vid is a rather objective view of the real Kris Kyle. In this case, Fox actually was fair and balanced. O'Reilly asked some tough questions.

It is possible for someone to be both a hero and a compulsive liar of such a level that you can't really tell what part of the source book is true or a lie. Jesse Ventura won a $1.8 million lawsuit (currently being appealed) when a jury found that Kyle fabricated a defaming story about him in the book:

Kyle NEVER called Ventura by name in the book or anywhere else from what I have gathered. Seems to me that this lawsuit was another of Ventura's "conspiracy theories" to me........(maybe a bit of guilty conscience??)
