American Sniper

New posts
When your country suffers an unprovoked invasion it's only natural that you fight back. I haven't seen the film, but I can guess which side is portrayed as the bad guys.

The reason I asked the question is because I think it's important that a movie like this is an accurate depiction of reality. If it doesn't show that stuff, then I think it does a disservice to everyone.

Good point. I haven't seen it. Don't know how graphic. I'm not sure I care how graphic. The subject matter disturbs me enough. The way a sniper kills someone, with total disregard for morals, seems a lot worse than other methods of warfare.

Oh sh*t, what am I saying? All forms of warfare are immoral. This one just a little more disturbing.

I think zombie heads exploding is kind of different from human heads exploding. Oh yeah, don't forget the movie about human heads exploding was a depiction of real events. The guys that were killed were defending their homeland from an invading army. Reality.

Not quite accurate, considering at least one guy, the Olympic sniper, was Syrian. If I recall correctly.

A movie that's disturbing could be a masterpiece. I just think if you walk out of a movie like this feeling good, then there is either something wrong with the movie, or something wrong with you. If this is a movie that changes you and rearranges you, then more power to it.

Dangitall, i was so comfortable condemning this movie, unseen, and now you're suggesting I may have to go see it? Dangitall!

Saw it Thursday night @ Destin. Excellent direction from Eastwood. Bradley Cooper did an outstanding job, and I believe he deserves the Oscar (although I have not yet seen Benedict Cumberbatch's performance in "The Imitation Game").

This film is more about the relationships of Chris Kyle and his family and his fellow SEALS and Marines. The film is not making the case for the Iraq war. It's about the people involved and what they have to deal with, not only while the men are deployed, but when they have to come home and readjust to our easy life here in America.

Personally, I do not believe that the US should have gone into Iraq. And I believe that the Iraqi families, as a whole, suffered much much more than the foreigners that went in there. But the fact that the US did go in, it was because of men like Chris Kyle, whose assignment was to watch over units that were on patrol, more American guys came home than would have not if snipers were not watching over them.

You nailed it.

Another thing that increases your chances of coming home is if you have a relatively cushy job, like being a sniper for instance.

There are at least two who post here who have no idea of what war or participation in it is like. Moreover, they have a tendency to tell those who have participated in it what they should have and should not have done. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to their trolling to get this type of response. They can't be so misinformed or stupid as to do otherwise.
