Bike Riders

Are you as frustrated as I am that some riders think they are too good to use the bike path and think nothing of backing up traffic on 30A because they are too cool to use the path. And what's with the riders who think they don't have to follow the traffic signals.

You can pass a bike rider, so I don't see how they could back up traffic to any great extent. I would just as soon the high speed racers stay off the bike path.

It would be difficult to pass anyone on 30A most of the time during the summer. One morning, I think it was Sunday, I observed a female rider who had a line of cars (maybe 10) in number, practically at a standstill in the Seagrove area just beyond the Baptist church. People were honking their horns. No one was on the bike path so she would have had a pretty clear path.

I give them 3'2". I guess I'm just more polite.

What do you use to measure? I use a wooden yardstick. Steel tape flaps in the wind and you don't get a good measure.

I use a 36" machete. I find it gives rapid feedback if I'm too close.

I guess a good rule of thumb is to give the cyclists 1 midget of clearance.
