Oregon to pay for college.

http://money.cnn.com/2015/07/08/pf/college/oregon-free-community-college/

The Oregon state legislature passed a bill last week with bipartisan support that ensures that if eligible students apply for federal grants for community college, the states will cover the remainder of their tuition.

To qualify, students must have applied for the state and federal aid grants available to them, lived in Oregon for at least one year, and maintained a grade point average of at least 2.5. They also must enroll in community college within six months of completing their high school degree or its equivalent.

Hopefully this is a first step to reversing the horrible rise of college costs.

We need public universities to get back to the purpose they were founded for - providing free or low-cost education for all.

Oregon is one of the most Liberal and least religious states. They don't automatically freak out, grab the Bible, and scream communism when someone proposes a social program that will benefit the state and it's citizens.

Well, I'm probably moving to LA when I have a grandchild on the way. I'll miss my hometown of Atlanta and our new hometown of 30A, but I want be to be near my grandchildren. Just hope our daughter doesn't have the severe infertility problems that I had.

Lower Alabama?

Go for it! That's what brought me here and I have never regretted choosing to be a hands on grandfather.

While it certainly is a step in the right direction, it needs to be all public centers of higher learning, not just community colleges.

Oregonians aren't averse to tax money spent well. Thus the bipartisan approval of the bill. It's that whole spent well bit that gets to be the issue.
