Your reasons or logic behind disrespecting fallen soldiers that were defending their family, land and fellow soldiers is not morally correct. You are trying to link a political correctness to a virtuous argument and both are false. Those soldiers did not own slaves, did not fight for slavery and were as racist or non racist as any other soldier fighting in that war. The whole premise of "trying to destroy the USA" is unfounded on principle. Think. Why would these young men fight for something like that. You are so caught up in being on the "right side" of political correctness that it turns you into a social crusader unable to think outside your small box. You have a right to disrespect whomever you choose but what goes around comes around...I guess that's where we can disagree. You can talk about hardship, loyalty, fighting for family/land, but a bad cause is a bad cause. You can't set that aside with the mitigating circumstances of the moment. These folks were trying to destroy the United States of America, and that would never be honorable...not then, not now. I am, however open to the idea that a treasonous government inside the beltway is worthy of public protest, civil disobedience, and whatever it takes short of killing people to change the rot from within. I could possibly see that these memorials can serve as reminder of our past by moving/ placing them in battlefield parks, not town squares...or enhancing the sport of fishing.
It is obvious to all who read here that even the lounge has gotten completely out of hand in regard to civility. Good going, guys and gals.
Yes, makes no sense. It's a mess and I would not want to be Kurt right now! It seems that some have only ONE intent and that is to DISRESPECT anyone who disagrees with their politics.Honestly Andy, I think that was the intent of moving the thread to start with. When the thread was in the public purview the folks from SoWal who have been so adamant about the flags removal had to show a certain amount of decorum. Once that decorum was removed they were free to "get down and dirty" and show their proverbial backsides much like they did when they didn't get their way at the BCC meetings.
I shouldn't have responded in kind but I'm not apologizing for anything I've said but will point out that calling a certain member a "douche bag" got my comment removed while calling someone an "Ahole" is perfectly acceptable if you're from SoWal.
I do not subscribe to political correctness. The south left the union. That we are even arguing this is laughable. This kind of thinking kept the Jim Crow era alive for 100 years after the war. When you are wrong in your cause, the first thing you have to do is admit it. and then you can move on. Most of the soldiers did not own land or slaves. That has nothing to do with it. It is that they took up arms against their own country and aligned themselves with a system of abject evil.. This reach to put icing on a turd is alive and well in the hearts of many southerners today. My family is from Virginia, and my grandfather is buried in Arlington near a cul-de-sac containing confederate war dead, and if it were up to me, be they'd be dug up and moved. You don't honor traitors, unless of course, you agree with them.Your reasons or logic behind disrespecting fallen soldiers that were defending their family, land and fellow soldiers is not morally correct.
