I remember them. Makes the song Jesus Take The Wheel relevant.I remember with my old misaligned ford pinto, any time an ambulance was behind me, all I had to do was let go of the wheel. Also with the pinto, you always drove with one eye in the mirror and one hand on the fire extinguisher.
And if you hit something or something hit you in the back end it had a propensity to explode, if I remember correctly. My first car was a Pinto. 1973. It cost me $2100, brand new, with AC and radio.
That's exactly what I paid for a new 1972 VW with no AC. It had a radio but don't remember if it was factory or added later. My first car was a Pinto. 1973. It cost me $2100, brand new, with AC and radio.
I wouldn't call it dumb...it was freedom to go. My first car was a 67 Impala, saw many a cornfields while driving fast on old rock roads in a dry Missouri night and missing the curve. It was a tank but the radiator needed to be replaced a few times.Bob, I was so young and so dumb in those days. I did side-swipe a tree at rather high speed. It tore the rear axle loose, spun me around backwards, and the engine was still running. I owe my life to that obnoxious noise it would make if you didn't click the seat belt. Looking back, and knowing what I know now about their gas tanks exploding, I was damn lucky.
The Pinto was a step up from the two Corvairs we had in the family. When we upgraded to a Chevy II and Nova we knew we were on top of the world. That's exactly what I paid for a new 1972 VW with no AC. It had a radio but don't remember if it was factory or added later.
