For those of you moving to Canada

New posts
I pay a professional to do my income tax so I can pay the absolute minimal amount allowed by law to the IRS. Probably every business owner and most individuals do the same.
If you feel it necessary to pay more than legally required, I'm ok with that.
Trying to get it as close to zero as possible, got it. I'm guessing you're not paying the statutory rate so share with us your effective rate.

A bit of advice for anyone comprehending moving to Canada. If you need any major surgery, get it done in the U, S, before you leave. Just returned from my 19th annual trip to Manitoba. My friend's father had to wait three painful years for a hip replacement under Canada's wonderful "free" single-payer healthcare system. He is not a fan.

I know people who have to wait painful decades until they are on Medicare for that.

Cry me a river, at least he was on a list. If it was life threatening he would have moved up in order. I have a friend who in his teen years started suffering from a painful genetic hip disorder. He was in his fifties before he could afford the surgery. He is not a fan of the US healthcare system. Ask your friend's father if he would have traded places and waited for thirty years and a huge medical bill.

I needed a hip replacement for years and didn't even realize it. His friend sounds like a p-u-s-s-y.

You can't say p***y. It's derogatory to Das Leader.

Yes and no. Drug laws are mostly federal, but states have the right to police and enforce, so while the federal law is the law...and theoretically a government agency could arrest a person in WA, CO, etc.. it is up to the state to enforce. This was contested by the Fed early on and state'so rights won.
State's rights did not win, rather the DOJ looked the other way. Here's some practice to go with your theory:

Even in Europe, they parse out students according to intellectual strengths and the construct provides for blue collar prosperity. Here we teach everyone as if they are going to college, and eviscerate our manufacturing base. Then we preach to the "deplorables" to sink or swim. How effete we be."Stronger together"?????? Bullshit!!

When I said some people need to acquire more skills, I was referring to the millennials with useless college degrees and huge student loan debt, not blue collar workers. The ones whose parents hovered over them and told them they could be anything they wanted in life, The ones who got trophies just for getting out of bed in the morning.

With the new AG, there is good reason to be pessimistic.

Too bad, we were just making progress.
