13,000 protest Governor's plan to change collective bargaining for public employees

New posts
I can only speak for myself.. I do not have contempt for civil serivce employees, what I do feel is contempt for their unions. :D Please don't try and spin this into some sort of "conservatives hate the middle class" issue.

FDR, the father of the organized labor movement, felt government workers should not be afforded the right to unionize or to have collective bargaining. His signature organized labor bill, The Wagner Act specifically excluded these groups of workers. He knew what he was doing.

No, it comes across as "conservatives hate the middle class having power" and they wish to abolish this power granted by law.

You ignore the fact that the father of your precious union movement felt certain groups of those workers should not have that power to begin with. On this, conservatives and FDR agreed!

I have never been a union member, but yes it is very "precious" to the members who are now under attack.

"Only a fool would try to deprive working men and working women of their right to join the union of their choice." - Dwight D. Eisenhower

"If capitalism is fair then unionism must be. If men have a right to capitalize their ideas and the resources of their country, then that implies the right of men to capitalize their labor." - Frank Lloyd Wright

"All that serves labor serves the nation. All that harms is treason. If a man tells you he trusts America, yet fears labor, he is a fool." - Abraham Lincoln

I'll refrain from adding your silly laughing smiley

From that article is sounds as though the Wisconsin legislature has been kissing the back side of organized labor for a long long time. Apparently now the citizens of the state are fed up so they put some people in charge who could work to normalize the situation.
no they're not, the economy is in the crapper, and the convenient fox news/teabag express target is those who had nothing to do with the crisis....vent at wall street, not at low paid worker bees.

s has nothing to do with the state's fiscal picture. Aside from potentially undermining Wisconsin's public health-care system, it's really about destroying the last bastion of unionism in the American economy: public employees. As Addie Stan wrote on AlterNet's front page:

Walker is carrying out the wishes of his corporate master, David Koch, who calls the tune these days for Wisconsin Republicans. Walker is just one among many Wisconsin Republicans supported by Koch Industries -- run by David Koch and his brother, Charles -- and Americans For Prosperity, the astroturf group founded and funded by David Koch. The Koch brothers are hell-bent on destroying the labor movement once and for all.

30A Shopper, I'm not trying to "spin" anything--the situation in Wisconsin speaks for itself...and fortunately, the people of Wisconsin speak back: http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/02/20-4
?To the giant corporate interests that currently dominate our state, we say that we will not stand by and watch you destroy Wisconsin?s democracy, Wisconsin?s economy, Wisconsin?s schools, and Wisconsin?s communities. We will not pay for your crisis. We will organize. We will march. We will nonviolently resist your policies and overcome your agenda,? reads the call, which can be found online at wisconsinwave.org. We?ll publish the whole call in Wednesday?s Capital Times, just as we?ll continue to cover the story of the democratic struggle to defend our public services and public schools, and the people who make them great.

the Governor of Florida is pretty clear about he thinks of state workers...and the state legislature...and the people of Florida.

We need to complete the circle of American politics on this, somebody needs to come up with a derogatory and sexually explicit term to describe the unionist protesters.

Canoehead has joined the fray - she was one of the estimated 68,000 protestors Saturday.

Pro-union side because as she puts it "I'm a bleeding heart liberal."

And she booed the Tea baggers.

And no one in history took advantage of a crisis better than G.W. Bush but this isn't about Bush or Emanuel.
