I'm so mad right now, I hope this makes some sense. Another sowaller that we all care very much for just called me from the side of the road after having a minor accident. She was fine, however, her car was not. She was very uneasy with the area she was in, but needed to call a towing service, so we hung up and I waited for her call back. After about 20 min. of nothing, I got really worried and called 911. Now, in my mind, I guess I was thinking that they had contact info. to get someone to check on her....what an imaginary world I am living in...in my own head!!!
The response I got was more like this...911, after seeing that there was not a Walton Co. injury tranferred me to the S. O. I explained the situation to this guy and the response was..."well, I don't know anyone in that area, if she is hurt she needs to call 911"....am I missing something here??? all I can think about is that family that was found dead on the side of the road... and 911 tells me they can't help me???? I certainly do not want to "Bash" the S.O., but...is that the way things work???
A ps on this is that she is now "fine"...I finally talked to her and kept talking until help got there. But what if we never got a call through??![]()
That makes sense. It seems like there could be a potential for problems when calling 911 from cell phones, too. Do they revert to 911 for their home calling area, or do they roam into the local emergency area?Beachmom...this concerns me greatly...was your friend in Walton County when this happened? If so, you need to find out who the dispatcher's supervisor is.
If not, and perhaps this is what you are asking...Walton County 911 only handles Walton County emergencies. And, not to speak on behalf of the S.O., but as far as I know, the primary method of communication between different counties / different states is NCIC, and even then, it's reserved for "be on the lookout" calls. Dispatch probably does have the correct numbers for calling Bay, Okaloosa, Holmes, etc handy but beyond that, they would need to call information.
I'm very glad she is OK!
That works in Florida (Florida Hwy Patrol), but is there a universal number to get the state patrol in whatever state you are in?on the highway(or near it) dial *FHP get the staties on the case.

She was not in Walton Co. I just didn't know what else to do. I guess I just thought they would be a little more help, even directing me to who else to call. I was very surprised with the attitude that I got. Maybe nothing to them, but to someone who has never called 911, it was a big deal to me. I was just worried about a friend.

Unless someone calls 9-1-1 to help a Whale giving birth.
