This mermaid is over the deck door- I got it in SoWal years ago, but can't rmember where!!!

That's a good one! I want her! The mermaid that is my avatar now is an ornament that my friend gave me yesterday. She said she saw it while she was out shopping and just had to get it for me. My daughter Fyl took one look, rolled her eyes, and said someone was over-indulged (moi  ).

Mr. JR gave a gorgeous starfish ornament years ago that looks like it belongs with your mermaid. Beautiful colors w/ the irredesence (sp?) I always hang it front and center on the tree!

That sounds lovely! I was thinking that when we go down to the beach Christmas week I might hit the shops and see if I can pick up any beachy-looking Christmas tree ornaments on sale. I know it would make my mermaid happy if a starfish joined her on the Christmas tree.

My favorite new funny ornament is one of the Cracker Barrel. It's hilarious.

I like to buy an ornament whenever we travel, so every one reminds me of someplace! We hit the Cracker Barrel at least once on the way down I-65 in the summer, so I guess that counts as a travel ornament.

jdarg, we do the same thing! When our children were younger and smaller, we'd pack them into the car and drive 22 hours to New Hampshire to my parents (kids and pets and presents and a car packed to the gunnels every time  ). We'd always make a few interesting stops along the way just to keep everyone from mutinying and I'd buy ornaments. My favorite is a barn ornament that we got in Pennsylvania Dutch country. I marked the bottom with the date and it reminds me of that trip when I put it on the tree each year.

Come to think of it, decorating the Christmas tree really is one of the most sentimental things you can do. I have ornaments from my childhood, ornaments from trips, ornaments that were presents...I love decorating the tree.

Mermaid...you will find lots of good bargains all around 30-A after Christmas! And nothing beats shopping down there compared to the city...there's always time to stop and chat and no elbows!!!

So you can be buying and NOT touching!!!
