It's called consequences at my house.
Where I'm from it's just school. I turned out fine and I didn't make amazing grades.

If your kids don't make good grades, send them to me. I'll give them an internship and break them into the entertainment pr industry. Fair enough? :idontno: At least they'll be able to get you a reservation at Nobu with only 3 hours notice.

I think you and I are of the minority here, Miss Kitty, but I share your opinion. And yes, my children think I am notoriously unsympathetic at times, but I can't help it. I was raised in the Catholic school system and they took no prisoners! It's what I believe in...consequences for your actions. Builds character to be accountable. :clap_1:

So far, my daughter hasn't been lucky enough to get a prof who would give her a break, regardless of how sick she might be. I have heard that the faculty at Davidson is outstanding in terms of being good teachers (as opposed to just good researchers) and that the advising system is excellent there. Unfortunately, my daughter wanted to be an architecture major and didn't apply there since Davidson doesn't have architecture. She applied to a few of the Ivys, MIT, and then Ga. Tech and Tulane were her safety schools.

One of my best friend's son graduated from Davidson and I think someone's daughter from the board attends there. They do have an awesome advising system from what I have been told, but believe me there is no coddling there!

Some people take themselves WAAAY too seriously when it comes to teaching/school. I never got it. :idontno:

You were lucky enough not to be born Catholic, that's all! :rolling:

No you are not. I have learned alot from this thread. I am sympatheitc w/Pea because I have a seventh grade boy too. Middle school stinks, and there needs to be a breaking in period of learning how to take your lumps- not just slamming it down on them. By the time they get to high school, I am not going to be as protective and sympathetic.

Will learned a valuable lesson this fall when we went to Disney. He is a good student (grades and behavior), so the teachers gave him his assignments since we took him out for 1 day (horrors!). He completed them, but in typical Will fashion, forgot to turn in the Spanish work. BTW- his Spanish teacher adores him, I adore her- we have this big admiration fest going on! So he got a B on his report card- missing assignments. He was stunned. I was pissed. Instead of giving him a zero for an unexcused absence, she gave him the opportunity to make up the work. He royally f*&$ed up. I don't mind a B, but getting a B 'cause he was careless made me nuts. I don't ask him anymore about his assignments- he either remembers or he doesn't, but when he forgets, he pays.

It's not the grades you make, it's the hands you shake boys and girls. ;-)
