A "toddler" story

My son called the other day. It is his and our daughter's-in-law custom to read to our 2 year old grandson before they tuck him into bed at night. They each read him a story after the drink, potty, bath routine (hope I got that in the right order). The other night, Henry, our two year old grandson, announced that there would be three stories that night...first daddy would read his; then mommy would read hers and finally he, Henry, would read his. Well, daddy read his and, in turn, mommy read hers, and when it came Henry's turn, he quietly "studied" his story book for quite a time...he's two..., and then looked at his parents and said "How I do it?" Well, I thought I'd cry. Such a cutie pie.

That is so sweet. Thouches a soft spot in my heart and makes me wish my 15 yr. old was 2 (& sweet) again.

God bless Henry's little heart!!! He sounds so serious! He'll probably teach himself to read!!

I LOOOOOVE this story! How sweet!:wub::wub: Henry may not be reading now, but I bet he will be soon. I think that reading time is some of the best quality time you can spend with a child. I can still remember sitting on my Grandmothers lap as she read to me. It didn't matter, she could have read the "Sears" catalogue and I would have been in heaven!

Thanks so much for sharing this story!

Remember when it was the only catalogue we got! Those were the good ol' days!

TANGENT ALERT!!! OMG...my poor mailman! I apologize everytime I see him! I may have to stop these things....think of all the trees!!!!

:lolabove: Oh, you guys are so right about the catalogues. I must admit, I do look forward to receiving most of them...

Thanks also for the sweet words about Henry and little children, in general.

Another short "Henry" story, if I may: Got an e-mail from our son last week. It reads as follows:

"**Cuteness Alert! We were getting the Christmas decorations out on the weekend, and we came to the stacked Santa you got for Henry. He did not remember who gave it to him, so when we reminded him that it was from Grandma and Grandpa, he thought for a minute and said "Grandpa has worms". Cuter still, as he pronounces "worms" like "wurms". Dad's treats have certainly made an impression on him, though Dad may not want his grandson telling everyone that Grandpa has worms..."

By way of explanation, my husband started, when Henry got old enough, to make sure he always had a small stash of Allen's candy worms in his pocket...Allen's worms are a semi sweet/sour, colorful candy that looks and feels, well, like worms. Whenever we go there or they visit us here, Henry is never let down about his "worm fix" from Grandpa. It is cute, as he will come up to Grandpa and just kind of stand and wait until the "transaction" has been made...no words are spoken...very cute to watch...forgot to add that Henry does say "Tanku Poppa"
