Hey y'all.
We have driven Denver>Amarillo>Dallas>Meridian (MI)>Panama City Beach.
Tomorrow we'll go to Port St Joe and get the keys to our temporary house.
Then we'll register the kid at high school, begin settling in, and look for a more permanent place to live.
Wow, it has been quite a magical mystery tour. Both dogs plus geriatric cat are fine if a bit confused. We are eager to get to the beach.

Wow! A trip from Denver to the beach via Michigan? Pretty cool, you are almost home! Congrats!

Please tell me she means MS for Mississippi!!! I'm sure she does....travel fatigue! Go Cil Go!!! Like OL says...you're almost home!!!

Cil, don't forget to change your "location" under your avatar to "Port St. Joe!" Welcome to the beach!

Good going, Cil! We know you'll be busy settling in, but try to keep in touch with all of us. We want to know how you're doing, kids, dogs, cats and all! :clap_1:

Oh, I bet she does! That would be quite a detour! I'm excited for them! They are livin the dream!

heehee
Yes, I did indeed actually mean MS for Mississippi.
Thanks for the welcome, and for not getting too much on my case, y'all!
Must have been tired from sitting in a car for 20-odd hours.

We made it here on Monday. We still do not have a washer/dryer or cable TV, but we managed to get a modem and some sketchy telephone service yesterday. We also registered the kid at high school (a cute girl showed him around) and he is already practicing with the soccer team. I love Port St Joe.
It will be interesting...some of the locals are excited about the changes, some are apprehensive and/or downright upset. I think I know something of how they feel, and I sympathize. We certainly will strive to be good members of the community.

The day we arrived, there was a cold front as well as Red Tide, and that threw us off a bit. But things are better now. The dogs absolutely love the beach. The sand and sea especially nice for our older dog's sore paws. The young dog loves the running space. Our ancient kitty seems livelier, maybe she enjoys the warmer nights.

We are in temporary housing, and it is daunting looking for a new place to live.
We don't want anything fancier than what we had in Denver, but it is hard to find something in our price range. Plus the kid and I want to be in town, and the husband wants to be close to the water. Plus all the flood zone issues etc etc. We will figure out something.

Yay, Cil...so good to hear from you! Sounds like everyone is settling in quite nicely! Love the story about your son and the precious animals!

Get out to the State Park at the end of the peninsula as soon as you can. You can walk for miles on the beach and see wondrous things.

Glad to hear you are settling in! We have a heavy frost here this morning- so I'm having some warm weather envy!
