The last time we arrived at our home, the smoke detector in our bedroom on the third floor was missing. I assumed that it malfunctioned (beeping continuously and annoying the rental guests) and that the maintenance person took it down until it could be replaced.
Fast forward to this week. The maintenance person arrived. He said that the rental guests probably knocked it down with a broom. The ceiling is 12' high. I said that no broom is that long. He said that they probably stood on a garbage can. I said that my husband is almost 7' tall and he couldn't reach it that way. First you can't knock it down with a broom because it must be twisted out of the base and then must be disconnected at the power source.
He said, "You'd be surprised what renters do." No, I'm not surprised after dealing with renters since 2003. But for a renter to catapult himself/herself to a 12' ceiling and remove a smoke detector is not believable. Problem is, the maintenance person didn't get what I was saying.
I am very annoyed by clueless people, especially those who are unwilling to admit that they can't answer a question. My husband is a problem solver and engineer. He knew the solution, but he's not gonna get on a big ladder after having back surgery two years ago.
