Our new son-in-law is a grad student at Georgia Tech and was invited to present one of his research papers at a conference in Lausanne in November. Hubby is a 3.5 million-miler with Delta, so we are using miles for our daughter so that the newlyweds can be together. A research grant given to Georgia Tech is paying for our son-in-law's travel expenses.

Hubby, daughter, and I have traveled to many locations in Switzerland, but never Lausanne.

Any recommendations about what our daughter can do while he is attending meetings? Restaurants? Sightseeing?

The Olympic Museum, Chateau St. Marie, Cathedrale-Notre-Dame, the Story Telling Clock.

Have her check Virtual Tourist, they have a good list.

I don't remember the name of the restaurant where we had lunch that we liked. I will try to find it in my scrapebook.

We were only there over night from Lucerne back to Paris.

How exciting! Tell them to have a grayt trip!

Switzerland trip report (for those of you who might be interested):

The kiddies are back from Switzerland! They had a great time. They ended up spending as much time as possible in Luzern. Our daughter had been there twice and has always loved it. Plus the people in Luzern speak German (son-in-law is German, and she took four semesters of German in college so she could speak German, even though his English is better than mine ). Luzern just has this special ambiance that is hard to describe -- the architecture, the sidewalk cafes along the river, the lake, the Alps, the people.

For any of you going to Switzerland, they would advise not visiting Lausanne. It is just a city. With French-speaking people who refused to speak German with them or even French with them (he is quite conversant in French). So they spoke English. They did, however, discover Turkish food there and loved it. They also loved the French-styled bakeries that are everywhere -- chocolate croissants for breakfast (will post a photo of the beautiful layers of their thin, thin flakes later), really good bread and cheese for lunch. I suppose if they had the money to stay at a hotel right on Lake Geneva, they would have had a different experience.
