Anyone ever been to New Zealand?

We made our airline reservations Saturday. My husband and son have been before. I have not. I thought I'd throw this out to all the SoWallers to see if anyone that's been might have any, "do not miss" suggestions.

I do have a Frommer's and have a few ideas already. We'll be there for 2 weeks + 2 days in-transit.

Thanks in advance.

WOW...you are traveling around the world!! I guess this means your little boy is moving? Be strong!

I haven't been, but I know it's beautiful and green and I wouldn't mind visiting one of these days. I had a friend who went and she raved about the country, especially how hospitable the people are.

Take a look at the 'talk' travel forum at www.fodors.com. Click onto Australia and the Pacific and use the search function to bring up questions specific to NZ. I used fodors' travel forum quite a bit when we were planning Europe trips and I can't recommend it enough for the most up-to-date info out there.

Bring your camera!!!! I want to see pictures when you get back!

Yes- many years ago (1987! ). I will PM you- there is a town on the South Island that is our last name. Since it wasn't my last name at the time, I wasn't interested!

Oh No! The PM's would have been flying gullfriend. He studied abroad there for a semester in college. GTTBD has been on business. We were supposed to go for our 25th anniversary. We got new puppies instead and couldn't bear to board them. Then we were going for the 26th, then we got the news the grandbaby was due when we planned to go (You know how that turned out!). So, we are going. We leave the day after Thanksgivng and return 2 weeks later. Hopefully, we'll actually make it this time!!!!!!!! :clap_1:

Haven't been, but met a delightful couple from there on our honeymoon. They owned a sheep ranch and I could have listened to them all night--they were delightful. Glad you're getting to go...take lots of pix!

I'll let GTTBD take the pictures. He's so good at it. I'll take my camera as well. Mine are not usually keepers.
