I-26 will not be completed for some time. Currently, you will be on 19/23 for a good portion which is divided four lane for a while. Not a bad ride, but I do not think it is Interstate 26 yet. The drive takes around 1.5 hours.

Just got back...pleased to report the road is done...interstate all the way, but a few too many smokies on the N.C. side writing tickets... beware ! Signage has not caught up. Its called about 4 different roads, even future I-26. What does that mean? A time machine at the rest stop?

It is not officially Interstate yet. The City of Asheville is still trying to relocate relocate 19/23 around the west side of town, eventually making it I-26. Currently is is Future I-26 around town.

Trying to find exact info about this route is hard- I had to drive it summer before last and had no problem. Smooth sailing and noone else on the road. I thought it was a spectacular drive- I had never come into Asheville that way before. Although I guess any road into Asheville will be beautiful.

It is an incredible road, but law enforcement will be watching you. It has taken many years to complete that stretch.

Bob, I know this is totally off the subject, but can I say that your avatar scares the H*LL out of me? I guess it is appropriate since it is October, but . . .

My avatar conceals the omnipotent force that is protecting SoWal from further tropical cyclonic disturbances, at least until 1 Nov, at which time the mask comes off.

If it works for you, then I'm okay with it . . .

Til November 1 then -
