Avatar/photo help

New posts
I can't figure out how to size photos small enough to be used as avatars or attached as thumbnails. Could some patient soul help me? You can PM me if you want to instead of boring all the savvy users! Thanks in advance.

If you go to Windows Explorer and double-click on the photo, the default software associated with that type of file (in my case, it's Windows Office Picture Manager because I haven't gotten around to changing all of the associations between file types and software). In Windows Office Picture Manager, do a "save as" to save a copy of the photo with a different name. Then use the Edit Pictures option, Change Picture Size option, then Resize, and change it to avatar size. Save this, and the original file name contains the smaller version. Seems counterintuitive.

If your file type is associated with a different piece of software, I'd have to know what it is (and have that software) to explain how to resize the photo.

If you'd like to resize your photos on your computer, here is a link to the world's easiest picture resizer by Microsoft. Click on it, then select run, and it will install. Once installed, all you have to do is right click on any pic file on your computer, select "Resize Pictures" and it will give you several size options - it's that easy!

That's a good size for e-mailing or posting photos. Avatars have to be less than 200px so i guess that program won't work.

For avatars, you may have a max size of 200x200. If you have any other photo program, even one that came with your camera, you can probably pull down the edit menu, and find something regarding, "image size," which will allow you to adjust the size to any size you want. if the photo is not already a perfect square, just change the longest length to 200, and the other side should adjust accordingly as to not skew the image. If you started with a very large photo, you may want to "sharpen" the image when reducing that small. You can probably find that button under the "enhance" or "effect" menus.

Skip--there should be a button that says "Advanced" in the resize box. Click on that, and you can customize the size to 200 x 200. Hope that helps; I just figured that one out myself! :clap_1:
