Bad behavior at boy's/girl's club soccer field

Some of the teams from the fall season of Walton Rec soccer played a round robin tournament on Saturday. One of the parents from team 29 was mad at the ref and proceeded to drop the GD bomb more than 5 times to the ref and in front of a multitude of kids. The ref called her down, but none of the parents, including me, said a word. I regret that. We have become a society in which we are afraid to even politely call someone out for their behavior for fear the situation will escalate. I hope in the future, I and other parents, will boo, hiss, howl, etc. so loudly when someone behaves this way, that they are shamed enough to either leave or apologize and never do it again. I also cannot imagine how embarrassed her poor child was with her terrible behavior. Responsible parents, let's join together and let people know this is not cool when it happens. Some will say... it will not make a difference. Maybe that parent will not change, but at least the kids will see us standing up to bullies and telling them to be quiet.

In my opinion, your idea is also bad manners and sends the wrong message to kids.

In the old days, inappropriate behavior by a person in a setting like that would be handled easily. The offender would be told in no uncertain terms, in private, that they can't do that again. If it continued the offender would not be allowed to return, would be shunned.

People don't do that much anymore. That doesn't mean you can't ask them politely to watch their language around children. I would.

I agree - meet bad behavior with politeness. Booing is not good manners but cussing sure ain't! lol

The parent should have been removed as an example.

These things need to be addressed quickly and directly. Boos and message board posts are too subtle and passive aggressive.

Back in the day, I had the joy of being a League President and umpire. Had a parent acting rudely and I informed them that if they continued I would have them removed by WCSO. I think that having a code of conduct for parents and players sign at registration may take care of most inappropriate actions. Just my solutions to what I see can be a problem albeit a passive one but one that could have consequences.
