For all of you nice folks that passed on hints to help me find out info on Bama Love....Thank You.
I really enjoyed researching her...she had a very interesting life. Married John Haney at 16, deserted at 23 with five young kids to feed and care for. (John killed his brother and then ran off to keep from being jailed.) Bama then moved from Al to Point Washington to be near her family. For five years she changed her name to Havey to protect the kids from the scandal of the murder that John had committed. In 2005 her father was murdered by a nephew leaving her mother and a younger brother to survive on their own. Bama's mother, Angie became one of the best moonshiners in the area. Her "juice" was famous and was even sold at the old Grayton Hotel. Soon "Love" came to Bama in the form of Thomas James Love, a young uncle in law of her sister Dessia. (By the way he was 7 years younger than Bama.) When she married into the Love family Bama sent off to school to learn bee keeping. The Love family was known for their bees and their honey. During her life Bama also served as the local midwife and healer, raised vegetables that she sold to the locals and also help to form a church and served as their preacher. She truly was a remarkable woman.
