I listened to President Obama's final news conference as President of the United States, and I was again struck by what an eloquent, thoughtful, intelligent human being he is. He has maintained his dignity and sense of humor through an incredibly difficult period in American history. He humbly, personally, accepted all criticism for the things he may have not gotten right, and he praised his team, ahead of himself, for all the great things they did accomplish. I am amazed at almost every sentence he crafts because he as an ability to balance his choice of words to convey just the right nuance to extremely difficult questions and issues. He is a true statesman, and it is my sincere hope he stays extremely engaged in the governance of this country in whatever way he can for as long as he can.

Thanks for the post - he's awesome - his nature is pretty reserved but I think 2 things define his term.
- the opposition deadlocking him at every step and vowing he would be a failure.
- he feels the weight of history and didn't want to eff up the first term by a man of color.

In addition he probably had 1,000 times the number of death threats than any previous president in history. Too bad Trump and his ilk will pave over everything he was able to accomplish. Because of the opposition in DC most of what he accomplished is unseen. He is so well respected and even loved around the world. Made me proud to be an American.

Rarely do we see any true servants/statesman in government any longer who are so smart. I think because of his heritage and upbringing he had plenty of motivation to rise despite the obstacles.

Oh, and his wife is awesome!

Here Carson is a stark difference from President Obama and Trump. One has grace, intelligence and empathy. The other is a narcissistic, arrogant bully.

I will most assuredly miss President Obama. He has acted with dignity against all the racial slurs that were thrown at him and his family. Now we will go from dignity to disgust all over the world except for people like Putin. Thank you President Obama for being you. Thank you for all you have done. Godspeed. It really hurts to see you go.

Articulate and elegant are all flowery and nice. Before you go on the defensive, I like Obama, I have been critical surely, but he has been a likeable President. Trump is a loud mouthed oaf, who I have not embraced at all. So what I would say, just as I heard in 2008, is wait and see. He is an embarrassment on the world stage as much as Obama has been. I have been in SF for three weeks staying at a hotel that is the Lufthansa hotel of choice. Their observations are interesting. They cannot believe how stupid America was to elect Trump, although they believe that they see how his election can help Europe?? They love Obama, but it faded after his first term because they didn't think he did anything that they could see.

They don't understand our political system and I didn't have the heart to try to explain it.

I will say that I liked having a cool President. Donny is questionable, buit we will see.

Carson, I think you were missing my main point. He is thoughtful and intelligent, then pauses, before being articulate. Der Turmpf is the total opposite. He reacts impulsively to anything that doesn't fit his narcissistic world view and he has no need of gathering the facts, because he thinks he already knows everything. I think his cabinet choices pretty much put the "wait and see" issue to bed.

Trump is an embarrassment as a human being and so far a disaster just being the president elect. President Trump??

I’m proud of what President Obama has been able to accomplish in spite of a scorched-earth Republican Congress who opposed him from Day One. Some accomplishments- not all listed. Obama Accomplishments 101 .

Every president makes mistakes has faults but the incoming Trump will either be a Plutocracy, Oligarchy, or an old word making the rounds Kakistrocracy. Sadly we may be going from one of our best presidents to our last.

Yes, "embarrassment on the world stage" sounds absurd. He's quite the opposite whether you like his foreign policy or not. Of course he's made some mistakes in that area. Now we have a man who wants to be a puppet to a country that is essentially useless except for fossil fuel, vodka, and tubes for your Marshall amplifier.
