Beach Driving Permits

New posts
It is my understanding that if had a valid permit when the lottery system started, and you had a habitable dwelling on your property, you were "grandfathered" and get your permit renewed every year. Our permit falls under this category-we don't have to be in the lottery, we just renew.

But- if you get a permit from the lottery, it is only good for one year, and you have to re-enter the lottery every spring.
So it's pointless for me to buy that used Jeep I've been eyeing so we can apply for a beach permit next spring because even if we get a permit, we might not get a permit the next spring. No way with my bad feet and knees from running too much and hubby's bad back and feet that we could walk from a parking spot to near the water at Grayton more than a couple of times a year. We'd need a vehicle. :(

in 2009 I heard about them doing way with it and i rushed mine in and am grandfathered., Since me and my wife own the house I wanted to change the sticker to both our names and they said no. But I know they're having attrition every yr as grandfathered in people die yearly or people forget to renew. grandfathered in people actually have one full yr to renew but they can't drive on beach till they renew. Since I live out of state I couldn't even qualify for the lottery as you must be a resident of Walton county. Its like having a masters ticket

From the latest verson of the beach driving ordinance:

Non-residents with mobility disabilities, upon proof of disability
(Disability Parking Placard, SSI Disability letter, etc.), will be eligible to receive a no
cost temporary permit from the code enforcement department. Residents with mobility
disabilities, upon proof of such disability (Florida Disability Parking Placard, SSI
Disability letter), may be issued an annual permit for $10.00 the processing fee only,
upon obtaining an annual eligibility letter from county administration.
